“Amazing family campsite”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

This is our second time at Woodlands. We will be coming back. The site is fantastic great spacious pitches. We had an all weather pitch and hired some rock pegs from reception refundable deposit so pegs were free. Made no difference then camping on grass. Facilities were fantastic. Great wash areas and only 20p for a bath not many campsites have baths. Showers in review below said cold but we had lovely warm showers. It is a large site with lots of families but this didn't bother us. The theme park is amazing and is included in the costs. We hardly got a chance to visit the local area as kids 3,9 and 11 just wanted to be in theme park. It was also open until it got dark so we could go and play with the play areas. Rides operated by staff were not open but it allowed the kids to burn off energy before bed. There is no play area on the campsite but with all the theme park below about 5 min walk it was fine and also meant less noise on the campsite. We had bbq's and went to Blackpool sands about 20mins away was beautiful. Would highly recommend the site well. Fantastic value holiday for everything that is included.

Stayed at the woodlands Campsite a short while ago, this site offers excellent value with a deal to stay at the site with included days out to the theme park, this offered exceptional value.

The theme park has many great rides for kids of all ages including waterslides, toboggans and a huge indoor play area, ideal for when the weather is not so sunny!

This site would be ideal for the summer for couple or family, especially with multiple days to spend in the park. The towns of Dartmouth & Totnes nearby or for venturing slightly further there is Torbay, Kingsbridge or Plymouth.

I am a seasoned camper, now with a young family. I do not expect much when camping but I do think basic toilet facilities are important! We stayed two nights, and I tried to have a shower twice. On both occasions, the water was ice cold. Since the outside temperature was still low (this being early May), it really was not possible to get clean without getting terribly cold myself. Thus by the third morning I felt pretty uncomfortable and was glad to go home. The campsite rates itself as five stars. Not having warm water for showers is unacceptable, I expect that from sites with less stars. Hence my one star rating. For reference, we used the upper toilet block (not the big building with the games room). I tried the ladies stand alone shower in the right hand corner there at 10.20am. After taking three minutes to warm up, I went in, but the warm water lasted 20 seconds, never to come back, leaving me wet and freezing. The second time I tried the family room shower, with WC and wash table, on the middle west side of this block at 9am, and that water never even became warm.
Note to campers, if you are up on the rally field, there are a lot of hill sections, so maybe bring a few towels to wedge under your mat/mattress so you slide down less?
Unlike previous reviewers, we did not have power cuts whilst we were there.
One more thing, it would be nice if there was a small play area for toddlers and small children in the centre of the campsite. The theme park closes at 5pm in May, and it would be nice if children can play on a simple setup near the tents, especially for those high up on the hill. So that would also be great whilst parents have to make breakfast or pack up all the gear. (It is a 10min walk with kids from there to the theme park equipment).

I have recommended this campsite to all my friends already. We stayed here in a motorhome for 3 nights (2 adults and 2 children - age 5 and 6). On our arrival we were met by a warden who guided us to our pitch and explained everything we needed to know. The pitch was a good size and the facilities were clean and obviously well maintained. Friendly staff everywhere and there seemed a lot of them! The theme park was fantastic especially the water slides!! The indoor play area is huge and both my boys loved it. Only downside to the holiday was nothing going on in the evening although after being in the theme park all day we were all ready for an early night!

Although the weather was terrible, excellent site! Wardens extremely helpful along with reception staff, this site would be even better if weather is good. Very well kept site, with good facilities and free access in to the park, great for all ages, my typical 18 year old teenage daughter enjoyed (which was an amazement).

One suggestion to the site is to have heating in the shower blocks and better lighting on site roads.

Would DEFINATELY go back and we've already recommended site to friends.

We bought the 7 day wrist band online which was good value for a family of 2 adults and 2 children. We arrived early and could get parked easily. The car park was near the entrance and this was useful if you wantyed to go back out and get food and drink etc.
Plenty to do at the park. Lots of rides for different ages and the staff were helpful and ensured that everybody was kept safe.
There were not massive queues which was great for us and so we got to go on all the rides we wanted.
There was also enough to do inside when it rained. Our children enjoyed the big blue barn and also visiting the animals.
We thought that the food was reasonably priced and there was no pressure to buy their food as we could take food and drinks in with us. The toilets were clean and there were plenty of them.
Somewhere we will be taking the children again - a must for people with yojng children visiting Devon.

We stayed here in August 2012 for 6 nights in a tent and even though it rained (almost) every day, it didn't spoil our stay as the free entry to the theme park more than made up for the bad weather. There is a huge indoor play area which our 7 year old loved - very well staffed - with a tower of terror drop ride thingy, a rotating climbing wall, as well as loads of the usual slides, tunnel mazes ball pools, rides etc. The theme park itself was awesome and although really busy, patrons of the campsite do get an hour in the park before it opens to the general public. The birds of prey centre on site was wonderful; calm and relaxing and obviously staffed by experts who are very keen to impart their knowledge.
Some reviewers have commented on noisy teenagers etc. which we didn't experience at all despite visiting in high season. I think the site is split into 2 sides and we were obviously fortunate enough to get a massive pitch on the right hand side of the site, straight up to the top of the hill from Reception. Despite the rain, the site was well drained and dried out quickly each morning.
We had a lovely meal at The Sportsman inn about 5 mins drive away, which was jam-packed and we're glad we booked in advance. We also tried the pizzas on the campsite which were delish, but pricey. Overall, we didn't see all of the theme park or take advantage of all the activities on offer at the campsite despite being there 6 days. We'd deffo stay there again if making a trip down to Devon.
