“Harbourside hotel - post card Cornwall”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013

I stayed here in April for a work away day. I was lucky to get a fantastic room overlooking the harbour with a huge double bed, lounge area and a good bathroom. The service we had throughout our stay was flawless, even down to someone staying up till 2 in the morning to allow one of our team who was delayed driving down to check in.

The Cornish breakfast was great, other options including fish were on the menu, as well as the breakfast buffet. The pub downstairs serves a good range of lagers and St Austell Ales.

I can't see why you'd go to Padstow and not stay here.

Room Tip: Ask for one with a harbour view

In a town with so much choice this is a great find! Great value for money, good selection of food! Definitely recommend the padstow fish platter!! Healthy and tasty and enough for one as a main course!!!

We stopped here for a drink. Lovely location and friendly staff. Busy with a good atmosphere. Padstows a lovely place to visit. We visited several bars and restaurants with no complaints in any of them.

We stayed here recently for a mini honeymoon. Padstow is a stunning little town and the Old Custom House is the perfect place to stay. Smack bang in the middle of Padstow so great access to shops, nice pubs, some amazing restaurants, the harbour/ferry to Rock and also very easy to pop off in the car to do any beaches and attractions in the area. The whole hotel is maintained to a very high standard and was very comfortable. The room was absolutely spotless too.

Was initially concerned by some of the negative reviews on here but discovered that they are old reviews, out of date and should really be removed from Trip Advisorn now. Both the room we had and the smaller room next door (had a sneaky look in through the door when it was being cleaned) were lovely so I can only assume the rest of the rooms are of the same standard. The pub and restaurant next door which serves the breakfast are both also very nice and the food served there was great.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. No free parking but thats the case in Padstow. If you want to go there thats what you have to accept unless you stay on the outskirts so I have no complaints about this. Would defo recommend this place to everyone.

Just return from a two night break in padstow, location right on the quay side couldn't be better placed, car parking a bit of a trial to find a spot but at £7.00 per 24 hrs not a lot now a days .
Staff very professional and friendly, rooms quaint we had room 14 " you either love it or hate it" we loved it , we'll it's over 300 years old and it did slope to one side. The food at the bar was very good indeed and at the restaurant next door they went the extra mile to make us feel so welcome.
the breakfast was first class with a very good choice. Thanks to all the staff for making our break special. I wouldn't change much they seem to have everything right.

Room Tip: Any room with a view over the harbour.

We used this hotel as a base for 3 nights. Walking sw coastal path. The bedroom was very clean, spacious, huge bed and a great shower. But noisy due to generators/or air conditioning units outside by our windows.
We ate in 1st evening, food was fine but not exceptional. We had to wait nearly an hour for our starter, took up table at 8 but no food till just before 9. They were fairly busy but we could have been told that there was long wait or offered some olives or drink on house to keep us going, We only wanted a glass of wine each, one saugvione and one Chardonnay but waitress got them the wrong way round.
Breakfast a bit miked, great to have a dreid fruit salad as part of buffett but excpetionally sweet, generous portion of scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, but egg very milky and overcooked had caught and brown at the bottom.
Got back from first days walking and although the waste bins in room had been emptied the old bag had been left in the room and not taken out and tea bags not topped up.
It was lots of little things that made this only just average when it could have been great. We asked the receptionist for bus timetable so that we could get back from our walks without using car. We were given one that was a year out of date (when we checked the next day it said very clearly that it was up to last autumn) surely the manager can check that tourist info uptodate the Tourist info office had copies of new summer time table.
We probably wouldnt go back here

Room Tip: it costs more for a view and dont have room 17 as you will look out on to generators/sheds and its n...

Don't be put off by the public spaces in this lovely hotel which is the reason I have downgraded by one point which, but for this, could have been a five out of five rating.
Not so much the restaurant or breakfast room which are fine having been recently renovated (breakfast by the way is very good) but the corridors and the outside of the rooms which are not helped by tired carpets and inadequate if clean decor. The rooms inside - we were upgraded for free to room 12 - are a credit to the St Austell Brewery who own this place.
The view is splendid across the harbour but the room itself is lovely and airy with a great very large bed and super cotton sheets. Very crisp and clean throughout and a nice en suite bathroom. Loads of hangers and nice touches such as free tea and coffee and biscuits and toilet stuff.
Staff are delightful and very keen to help - again a credit to the owners.
In particular James. What a clever move to have a highly skilled computer expert on board to help out customers with their wi fi problems (as he did for me).
All in all we were very pleased with our choice and will look no further when we return to Padstow.
Well done.

Room Tip: Do pay extra for a view of the harbour. Rooms are not cheap in high season which seems to be par...
