“Family break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2014

Visited this hotel in the height of summer for a short family break. Couldn't ask for a better location with parking on site which is definitely needed in Padstow , although the car park is always full as spaces are limited. The staff are great, very helpful, friendly and polite. The hotel is good but a little dated in places and the bedrooms although large could do with modernising . We had a ground floor room that opened out onto the lawn with great views over the estuary . Hotel is situated right next door to rick steins seafood Resturant . Breakfast was good with lots of choice although I think it would be better if buffet style. Literately a two minute walk into the harbour with a great choice of shops and restaurants . The big negative for me was that there was no safe in the room although you could leave with reception , wasn't impressed with this and wifi was practically non existent , never once got it in our room and generally had to go and sit in the reception area if you wanted a connection, not really acceptable in a four star hotel. But yes would go again as overall good.

Room Tip: Had room 103 which was a premium room on the ground floor with doors that open out onto the lawn, ho...

Dear D H,

Thank you for your review.

I am very pleased to read you had such a good stay. The staff are a credit to us and work incredibly hard to look after all our guests.

Ongoing refurbishment continues throughout the year and more bedrooms and public areas will be completed this winter. We are also looking into providing safes in all our bedrooms and we are hoping to upgrade our WiFi in the coming months so I hope you will return at some point in the future so you may see the progress we are making.

Many thanks and kind regards

We had a amazing stay at Padstow 2014. We stayed in room 104 ''the best room''. 'We were surprised as to how big the room was when we arrived but what really made it was the view. As we had a dog we got given a suite which had opening doors into the garden which had great facility's. The breakfast was average as the continental selection had limited choices but all the waitresses were very pleasant and friendly. The evening meal was incredible it was like Master chef cooking for you every night, the presentation was fantastic and all the tastes worked. The best thing about this hotel is the location, it is only a 3 minuet walk into the harbour which was beautiful. We definitely be re-visiting!!! ;)

Room Tip: Lower ground floors seem to be very quiet and has a opening view to the garden!!

We have visited the Metropole for lunch on quite a few occasions with family & friends but this was the first time we have stayed overnight at the Hotel.

We booked in advance for £189 per night and on arrival got a warm professional welcome which was nice. We were allocated to room 54 which is right up on the top floor and took the lift which seemed very "jumpy" and in need of a good service. Our room was tidy but the shower door was hanging off it's hinges and was also in need of repair. The overall impression we got during our stay at the Hotel was that although steeped in history and ideally placed in Padstow the facility demands top prices and is in dire need of a good makeover.

Our breakfast was not all that impressive either and overall we were not impressed.

Dear SharonK99,

Thank you for posting your review.

I am sorry that we didnt seem to meet with your expectations of previous visits. Our lift is maintained and serviced regularly by OTIS and is certainly fit for pupose although I will agree, a little old and quirky. We are currently in a program of refurbishment and prior to the peak season we had 10 rooms redecorated including new carpets and soft furnishings and more work is planned over the coming the months.

I do hope that you might consider returning and should you wish to discuss anything further please do not hesitate to contact me

Kind regards

Melissa Harris

Me and my partner didn't actually stay in this hotel, however we broke down in padstow and had no phones. Lisa and Lucy let us use the reception phone and let us wait in the hotel, for several hours and even provided tea and biscuits. They where really kind and helpfull when we needed it most, otherwise we would of had to wait in the cold for four hours. Just like to say thank you to Lisa and Lucy for being so helpfull and accommodating

We've just returned from three nights in the Metropole. Having booked it online with little knowledge of Padstow, we were delighted with the location - only five minutes' walk to the harbour but far enough out of the centre not to be disturbed at night-times by revellers. Oh, and right next door to The Seafood Restaurant! Large clean, airy room with a lovely view over the estuary towards the harbour, comfortable bed, great shower, blackout linings on the curtains - all perfect. And the breakfasts were excellent - freshly cooked to order rather than sitting congealing on a buffet bar. The staff were all very helpful and polite. The building itself is a little old fashioned but I suspect that is probably because it is a protected building so I wouldn't say that was a complaint at all. If visiting Padstow again, we would definitely stay here.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the estuary.

I spent two nights here with a friend. Staff were friendly and efficient but the fixtures and fittings quite dated and tatty. I enjoyed the service at breakfast and the views! and the heated pool was a real treat as it felt like the Caribbean and was protected from the wind. The location was superb and it took us 2 minutes to walk down some steps to Rick Stein's seafood restaurant.

Dear Sarah J,

Thank you for your review. Im very pleased to read you had a good stay with us and enjoyed most aspects of your stay, I'm sorry that a few dated fixtures and fittings let us down and only deemed us 3 stars.

We are in a fabulous position and are lucky enough to be the only establishment in the area to have an outdoor heated swimming pool but also to be in such close proximity to the town and beaches nearby.

Many thanks and kind regards

Spent two days and nights here. Very convenient for the shops and restaurants and free parking. Hotel is looking a little tired, however the rooms were very nice, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was very tasty with lots of options. The service was very good and we never had to wait long for anything we ordered. I had a very nice massage, I was really well looked after.

Room Tip: We were in room 54. It was one of their basic rooms on the 3rd floor. It was a quiet corner and th...
