“Central and on the money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013 via mobile

Great little place for a quick stop off. Room very clean. Bed good and fit for purpose. Bathroom polished. All the necessaries in the room. At the back of the hotel is best noise wise. Friendly host. Breakfast somewhat greasy however and lacking in choice but this is a room on a budget so you can live with the breakfast. Perhaps a little tight time wise so having a good lie in is probably not an option. Overall good value for money.

Stopped off in Padstow with the family for something to eat at the Old Ship. My wife and I ordered the cheese and meat platter at £14 each and my daughter had a kids fish n chips at £6. When my daughters came I have never seen such a small portion. The fish was more like 1 battered joujon with a handful of chips !!!. The platters were okay but again very stingy. Service was good as was the beers inside. After all it is a tourists spot but come on be a little more generous !!.

As we thought we'd have a day out in Padstow and everything seemed to be owned or run by Rick Stein we asked the tourist information office for what was the best place to have lunch and they came up with this place and I can honestly say they're not wrong the food was awesome and plenty of it too the staff are very friendly and very helpfull.
The bill was very reasonable for 4 people having a main course a couple of sides and a round of drinks was £48 I thought that was very reasonable for pub lunch.
It was that good we returned a week later with the rest of the family and the service was exactly the same a very good experience we will be returning.

Had two nights here at the end of July.We were welcomed warmly and our bags taken to our room. The room although quite small had everything we needed comfy beds tea/coffee etc and well equipped shower room.Everything at the Hotel was spotlessly clean and well run by friendly staff.Even though it was a pub the noise level certainly in our room was no problem.Breakfast freshly cooked and tasty. For 2* accommodation in the centre of Padstow you cant go wrong,we would stay here again.Added benefit of parking available but as mentioned before it isn't for the feint hearted if you have a large car!

If you need to stay right in Padstow this is a good location-but you need to choose your room carefully if you want any sleep in high season- remember this is a pub with rooms .

Any rooms at the back are just fine as this is a solid old building and quite soundproof but the ones at the front above the bar and the outside area could be noisy on hot nights when people are outside.
The rooms are simple and basic but there is all you need for a short stopover . The usual tv etc good tea making facilities - pristine white comfortable bed- The shower cubicle was good - powerful shower - bring your own large bar of soap though! The towels were very white and fluffy .

Above all the place is very clean and the staff are always to be seen polishing and cleaning.

The breakfast was mediocre - not quality food and nothing particularly fresh like yogurt or fruit - tinned and pre packed- and the time window very short 8.30-9.30 am which meant everyone was in at the same time so service was a bit slow. But we were in no rush and we appreciate the main business of the day is the pub and meals so no real need for long breakfast service hours.

The staff seemed to be working very hard and were cheerful and helpful.

Overall it was overpriced for the quality but its location and being in the peak season was what we were paying for and they charged no more than any other centrally located accommodation - so on balance we would return .
And bizarrely they have an exceptional collection of dinky toys in the dining area!

I regularly read trip advisor reviews before choosing a hotel, restaurant etc and never take note of the negative or slightly critical reviews. "Bit too expensive" - please then tell me where you can stay in Padstow for less and get the level of service, food etc that you get at the Old Ship?. It's Padstow for crying out loud, if you want to pay a mediocre price for a meal, there are places, but you will get a mediocre meal. The staff at the OId Ship are great, always helpful, friendly and nothing was too much for them. Ideal location, FREE parking, comfortable room, (no9), breakfast to die for, good atmosphere. Would not look further than the Old Ship if we go to Cornwall again.

This is a great place to sit outside, under the canopy , while enjoying a drink and bite to eat and just chilling. We always call in here when we stay in Padstow and take time to relax. The menu is varied with some excellent specials like lobster - great for a holiday treat. The meat and cheese platters are also good, especially if you don't want anything too heavy to eat. All in all a lovely pub with great food.
