...just a few little tweaks away from being brilliant.
Definitely the finest eaterie in Wadebridge, having been there a few times now, and great value. I've never understood why this place doesn't seem busier compared to (IMHO) less-good places in town.
The food is what i would call classics, but with some high-end aspirations: perhaps it's the understated nature of the place and its laid-backness which meant that i was perhaps surprised (first time, anyway) that it did actually meet those aspiration, by-and-large. Really tasty, imaginative food, well prepared and nicely presented.
Service has always been great - nice lads and lasses with natural charm and the right level of attentiveness/affability [i'm not a fan of clinical service].
As i said, the place seems a little understated, but it's a very pleasant space to dine in - high ceiling, table not cramped. I guess the owners could take it up to the next level looks-wise*, but I kinda like it and it's fine as it is.
But the most important thing is always the food and the food is really good. Re 'little tweaks' - perhaps one of the starters i had which involved cold duck salad: a little overcooked for me, possibly better served warm: a little thing which would've classed the food as 'brilliant', rather than just 'really good'. sounds negative when i re-read it, but not meant to be, the food is, er, really good! and the 3-course menu is great value.
*I do think you should lose the little plastic menu on the tables that tells me how much a jagermeister will cost me :-)
