What can I say? Having visited this part of Cornwall a few times I always said I'd come back and stay at the Port Gaverne Hotel. Having read a few negative reviews on here and thinking that it isn't always the same when you go back- I was a little anxious about introducing my partner to this place.
I needn't have worried- it was even better than I remembered and we will certainly be back again.
I'm not a dog lover and worried that the place might be full of 'doggy' people, but I was wrong, it wasn't at all.
The service here was friendly, efficient and unobtrusive, which is what good service should be. The room was cleaned whilst we were at breakfast every morning and staff were always friendly.
The room itself was lovely- we had french doors onto a private terrace (shame about the weather!) and the tea tray was always well stacked with tea bags and good quality biscuits. This may be a small thing to comment on but it is that attention to detail which made this place a delight to stay in- no stinginess here!
There was also masses of storage space- which also made a pleasant change from some places I've stayed in.
The location in my view can't be bettered- the hotel practically has its own beach. Port Gaverne is quiet even in summer, and there are lovely cliff tops walks as well as Port Isaac a very short walk away. There are public toilets and even a small shop/shack (only saw it open once) , but you don't come here for shopping!
It is hard to say what was best about this hotel- I can't fault anything except perhaps that the bar gets busy if you want food in the evening and there aren't always tables. The food itself is good, we ate in both the bar and restaurant, and breakfast was excellent.
The pub is busy in the evenings but it has a friendly atmosphere and we came second in the pub quiz- a rare event!
We also took advantage of the visitors lounge upstairs with its own balcony over looking the sea,
Dislikes? None. Parking can be an issue here but the pub has an ample car park a short walk away and it didn't cause us any problems. There are a lot of steps to contend with to get to the rooms, not easy if you have heavy luggage- but I don't see how they can solve this problem without losing the charm that makes this place so special. I last came three years ago and it hadn't changed- I'd like to think that I can come back sooner than that and find that still nothing has changed.
This has become my favourite place to stay. Thank-you for a magical four days...

What a great review. We are so pleased that you came back and everything was as you hoped it would be. Coming second in the quiz is no mean achievement! Seriously though, we are so pleased that you had a good time and will hopefully come back soon.
