“Go hungry!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2012

I've never before been to a pub/restaurant wher when they say shoulder of lamb they mean a whole shoulder of lamb. Very good choice of starters, main courses and sweets with great service. An excellent range of beers too. I've been there half a dozen times and it's consistently good.

“Great Real Ale & Hearty Pub Grub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

We have just returned from our first trip to North Norfolk, staying in Wells-next-the-Sea. We stumbled across the Bowling Green, as it is a little off the beaten track, but we are so pleased we venturned in. A warm and welcoming bar with a real log fire, very welcomed in November! Friendly bar staff and an excellent choice of real ales. The food is wholesome, traditional English pub grub, We just had a main course, but there was plenty of it. The Gammon was lovely with a perfectly cooked egg and the homemade Beef & Ale with Cobbler was also excellent, served with chips and veg. This little pub on Church Street is well worth the leg stretch from the main area of Wells. It is excellent value and a great alternative to the one or two "gastro" type pubs / hotels, where the prices can be a little on the steep side if drinking and eating. The Bowling Green is frequented by locals and tourists, but always a good sign when locals eat and drink in a place! We would recommend the Bowling Green for it's overall ambience, but also great value of money, with friendly atmosphere.

“Traditional Local Pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

Good find. Menu written on blackboard rather than folder so can change daily, but food was plentiful and tasty. We sat next to the open fire which was lovely. Got busy for a Friday night but we hadn't booked in advance. All cooked fresh but veg could have been hotter.

“B&B at the Bowling Green Inn”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

The Bowling Green Inn has some lovely ensuite rooms in a converted stable block at the rear of the pub. Vicky, the manager, made us very welcome: we had brought bikes with us and she arranged secure storage overnight at the pub. The team were very friendly, and the food is good - proper hearty pub fayre is also complemented by some vegetarian options and more sophisticated dishes. The location is great, being only a few minutes walk from the centre of Wells and the B&B rate are very reasonable and the breakfast was great. The only drawback is the church is right opposite so the bells can be very loud. However, this was outweighed by the warm welcome that we got from Vicky and the team and we would recommend staying at the Bowling Green Inn on a trip to Wells..
