I have used this hotel on a number of occasions now and have always found the personnel to be very helpful and courteous. The hotel is very comfortable serving great food and very welcoming especially on these cold winter nights. On the odd occasion when something was not quite right I have reported the matter to the management who have always done everything in their power to correct the problem as quickly as possible with the minimum amount of fuss. No one could ask for more. My advice to all travellers is to always bring problems to the attention of the hotel management and then report on how the matter is handled.

Booked very late, and wanted to arrive late, staff very accommodating, told me they would make sure someone would be up to let me in. The hallway where you enter was very inviting and warm, I was pleasantly surprised at my room, I have stayed in the Old Bell near Thomas Paine, and this was much better, lots of room massive shower and an extremely comfortable bed.
excellent tea making facilities. Not wanting to pay more but believe it was worth more than I actually paid.

Room Tip: I stayed in room 5 large, massive Shower and Bath

I am sorry to have to wright this review but I checked out this morning and have some negative feedback.

Water Temperature
Firstly, both complained that the water was cold, so I could not take a shower.

Bathroom Cleanliness
I took a picture of the state of the bathroom on entering: The Lid of the Cistern was off and a towel on the floor.

SHOWER - Mildew present (despite the cold water!)

Trusting The Thomas Paine will correct these items, otherwise we may not wish to stay at Thomas Paine in the future.

Room Tip: None of the rooms have hot water at the moment, except from that choose room 1,2 or 3 which are on t...

Once again thanks to all the staff and management for making our stay with our grandchildren such a special one, the warmth off these staff obviously been well groomed is as warm as the beautiful log fire that they have. We always stay in the same room and it's like a old world style with all the modern facilities, the management have just put in a modern heating and hot water system which all other reviewers should consider before making their comments, it's beyond me how people are !!! Would you get your shower system fixed overnight ??? No you would shop around and get the one most suitable and contacting a plumber well you all know how easy that is. We have been coming here now for over a year and the place gets better and better, yes they have their issues but we in business all have perfect staff don't we!!! Try the awesome AFTERNOON TEA IN FRONT OF THE FIRE and you will be back for more guaranteed just like us. Well done to all and can't wait till our next visit.

Room Tip: Room 3 fantastic book before you get there.

one of the cleanest hotels you will find. The staff is very welcoming, the rooms are comfortable and the decoration is very elegant. I would give them 10000 stars!! My husband and I slept like babies because it was peaceful night every night. I have no complaints

We stayed two nights. Not a bad price and comfortable beds with standard things like tv, coffee and tea etc and a clean and updated shower and loo. But we stayed in room 2 and there was no hot water in the shower (after 20 mins running it just got slightly above tepid). Scalding hot water in the basin though. Staff who were really friendly and helpful generally really couldn't help with it and explained hotel had low water pressure (a previous review mentioned this) so Thomas Paine Hotel , lots going for you but reliable hot water is pretty much a must for any hotel. I have emailed the hotel directly with this so hopefully they will work to resolve it.

Room Tip: Room 2 problems with hot water in the shower

The hotel provides warm rest and relax after a stressful working day. Staff is friendly and helpful. Rooms are space full and comfortable. Breakfast was tasty. The only surprise for me was when we could not get warm food in the bar mid afternoon...
