“Excellent service, food and attention to detail”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2012

We had lunch and found the welcome very warm and friendly. The quality of the food is very high and well priced. I for one like the fact that the accent was on quality rather than the impossible to eat mount vesuvius/tracy island size portions that most places serve. The portions were not small though. We will be back.

“Really poor restaurant”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

The restaurant is really, really disappointing, especially for the price. Here's why:

The service was hit and miss. The old proprietor was very gruff, and found it odd that he had to explain that we'd be seated in our reserved restaurant table AFTER taking our food orders in the bar. Well, excuse me for clarifying about your entirely non-standard customer experience.

The other servers were all really friendly, and accommodating so perhaps this guy just has been doing this too long and forgets that it's about the customer. Perhaps there's more to this theory as the bar seems to be some ode to a former philandering lifestyle with the playboy logo prominently displayed, and numerous pictures of nude women. Well, at least someone is happy.

As for the food: shambles. My appetizer was meant to be some smoked haddock covered in gratin. What I got tasted like it was fish chowder out of a can, covered with crackers. See the picture. It tasted like it looks.

My main was mussels. They were so overcooked that when I'd open the shell, the mussel meat would shred apart. The broth that they came in was congealed and clumpy. How long had they sat under a heat lamp?

My dessert was a banoffee pie. Sure, if you take the hardest pie crust known to man, spoon some pudding into it, and then sprinkle crap on top, I guess you could call it a pie. Again, check my picture. Laughable.

Avoid.

“Excellent as usual”

Once again, superb meal, very friendly staff, excellent service, food as usual top class. I would recommend anyone to eat here. Six of us from work had the most enjoyable evening.
