Stayed here for their New Year's Eve party. Good room, food and hosts. Hopefully will repeat the experience next year.

Stopped one night here, booked through LateRooms and got a good deal compared to the standard rates.
Check in was quick and felt welcoming.

Room was clean and spacious.

Food out of the restaurant was of an excellent quality. Staff at all points were very friendly.

They were doing some work in renovating parts of the hotel, but at no time did we hear them.

We will stop here again, when next down to visit relatives.

Andy

When we booked our room we were not informed that a function would be taking place on the night we arrived, or that our room would be right above it! When we called to ask when the function would be over we were told that they 'had the bar until one am' Asked what they were going to do about the noise we were told that they would 'ask' the party goers to keep the noise down. In the event the noise went on until approx 2.00am! No apology was offered in the morning for the disturbance.
We had asked about parking when we booked, and were told that there was ample parking...but not that it was not reserved for guests, so we arrived late at night to find it filled by the cars of those attending the function.
We had booked what was termed an 'executive' room. It was a reasonable size but nothing more than average, and certianly not worth the £110 charge. It was reasonably clean, but the bathroom carpet had seen too many wet feet and was grey and dingy. The towels were small, seemed over washed, and hard and thin. The shower temperature varied and was just an attachment to the bath taps with very low pressure.
If you stay here ask if they are having a function, bring ear plugs, and be prepared for an over priced average room.

When choosing this hotel we relied on reviews, as we dont know the area at all. The location was great. Quiet, yet walking distance through a nice park to the town centre.
A warm welcome when checking in. A nice house with character, but the room was a bit dated. Room 7 must be over the kitchen, as in the evening the bathroom smelt of dinner, and we didnt need to look at the time for breakfast!! Very clean. I would recommend this hotel but I feel it is a bit over priced (£89 per night for a twin room)
it has a nice friendly bar, and breakfast was good.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2009

My wife and I stayed at the Stuart House Hotel for 2 nights (Friday and Saturday) in September. We found it slightly difficult to locate as Goodwins Road confusingly has four ‘arms’, but it is conveniently situated for the town centre which is 20-minute walk away. (Note of caution, do not walk to or from the town centre through the park, also known as the Walks, after dark as it is full of ‘undesirables’). The main hotel car park was quite small, but there was ample parking down the gravel drive leading to the hotel. On arrival, the receptionist was courteous and directed us up to our standard twin room (no porterage offered). Spotlessly clean and nicely fitted out with a ‘homely’ feel, they had clearly made an effort to make the room comfortable. The spacious en-suite bathroom was down two steps, but had only a bath with no shower option (see photos). The only real issue with the room was that it overlooked the back door of the kitchen and bar, this resulted in a lot of late night noise as empty bottles and trash were unceremoniously thrown in the bins without any consideration whatsoever for guests. The hotel bar was cosy with a very good selection of real ales. We ate in the restaurant first night, the service was very slow, but the food was very good although, we thought, a little expensive. Breakfast the first morning was excellent in all respects, but the second morning was complete chaos, they just seemed overwhelmed and were not clearing tables quick enough or serving food in a reasonable time. With that and the late night noise, even for a 2 star, we left feeling a little disappointed especially as we paid the full weekday price (no weekend deals here it seems). Would we stay again – probably not.

Thank you for your review. The bathroom of the room you stayed in has undergone a complete refurbishment and now boasts a 4 peice bathsuite which includes a large walk in shower. We also received a few years ago our 3 star rating and would welcome you back to see our upgrades.

I stayed here in a party of 4 for a weekend at the end of March, we found it to be absolutely wonderful, Gemma was a diamond, nothing was too much trouble for her and she was absolutely everywhere!!! 50 jobs all rolled into one, the bar was a joy, the food in the bar looked excellent, we had decided to eat out, wish we hadn't as I got food poisoning from the Italian we ate at. The breakfast I was told to be excellent choice, hot and catered extremely well for everybody. I would definitely recommend this little hotel, its a gem xxx

Just relised that i have not done a review of a stay in Nov 2007,

A Group of us stayed there for a spl Birthday celebration of some of us.
The rooms were comfortable, decent bar area with real ales for those of us that enjoyed a decent drink.
The meals very good with a wide selection of choice, although on one occasion a couple had to be sent back, but were replaced.
The staff were very friendly and we were allowed to decorate the table for the birday party.
Nothing seemd too much trouble and this helped our stay all the more pleasurable.
If there is one thing that could be a negative point is the parking, very limited and restrictive.
All in all though it was a pleasent stay and would recommend to anyone.
