“Lovely location but the food really let them down”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2014 via mobile

I visited the Rising Sun with friends as we were in the area and had heard that it had a good reputation. Looking forward to a nice meal we ordered two of the specials and one main from the menu. However, it was actually the specials that really let the side down. The pork and apple burger hadn't been near an apple in it's lifetime and was ridiculously small for the size of the burger bun, which I hasten to add, must have been the cheapest bun they could have purchased when they went to their local Bookers! The accompanying potato wedges were overcooked and on the edge of being burnt. The second special was marginally better, but again overcooked and the side salad was swimming in a shop-bought dressing. I consider myself a fairly competent cook, and making a salad dressing isn't beyond even my means, so I would hope that even a simple homemade dressing would have been better that a shop-bought one. So, here is where the meal gets a little better, the fish and chips were very good; the portion size was generous, the chips well cooked and the peas had a little bite left to them. All in all the location is a great as it overlooks the broads and on a summer's day this would be perfect, however the food on this occasion really let them down.

“Perfect relaxing spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2014

Hired a day boat from Horning with friends. Decided to go up the broads all the way to Coltishall as hadn't been beyond Wroxham before. Nearly turned back as didn't expect a great pub like this. Sat outside overlooking the river and timed it so the wait wasn't too long. Staff were friendly and helpful, the Ale was good and the food was delicious- the Fish and Chips were more like Whale and Chips!! Turns out Sundays kids eat free in the winter so a little bonus for us with 2 kids! Would have liked some crayons and paper for the kids but all in all a good experience.

“Nice spot to visit out of boating season”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2014

Hubby and I visited this pub whilst staying in Coltishall for the weekend. We spent a very nice couple of hours sitting in the sunshine watching the fishermen while having a couple of drinks. The pub itself is nicely decorated offering a selection of bitters. We didn't have a meal here but there were plenty of people who were eating. We hadn't been to this pub before and it is in an idyllic setting looking onto the river with a nice green area but I would imagine during the summer months it woudl be heaving with people. The bar staff were friendly but the ducks were indifferent to the bread that was being offered!
