“Birthday treat disaster.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

I took my partner for a romantic birthday meal as a treat last nite. The hotel looked impressive, staff very attentive.

The white rooms however were a disappointment. A loud wedding party spoilt the moment. The atmosphere was far from romantic. Lighting to bright, was noisy, table too large for two and was unstable. Noisy radiator was intolerable. No candle light.

The food was overly expensive, i had lamb was not asked how I liked it. Cost £25 & was tasteless far to rare, the measily vile veg cost an extra £5.50 each for a few strips of carrot & green beans and some other unidentifiable undercooked stuff.

The dessert of choc brownies cost £8.50 for one brownie, biob of cream & trickle of sauce. Again pretty underwhelming. A far cry from what i expected for £76 that didnt include any drinks.

I wouldnt have minded so much if the atmosphere etc had lived up to expectations. Will not be among my recommendations and we will not be spending future occassions. One of those evenings u wished u hadnt bothered with. Chips on the way home were a delight in comparision.

“A great experience - again!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2012

Down the years, it has been a great professional, ie journalistic, privilege to dine in some wonderful places in many parts of the world.
These days, at least within the UK, it’s becoming harder and harder to identify establishments where ambience, service and cuisine combine to provide a truly memorable dining experience.
This week, we again visited the Serenity Spa at Seaham Hall. And it ticked all three boxes.
It would be relatively easy to launch into editorial platitudes about the quality of the service and the dishes we enjoyed. Suffice it to say that the staff were attentive without being overtly intrusive and the dishes chosen on the advice of our host, were an excellent and eclectic melange of textures and tastes.
Our meal was unquestionably the best of its kind I have ever experienced in recent years and my impression is that all other members of our party would echo that sentiment.
NB: For the benefit of those who are aware of my public relations background, I ought to add, perhaps, that no incentive of any kind has been offered to persuade me to write this comment.

“Excellent food and drink”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2012

The restaurant is very good - the food and service particularly were excellent. Well worth a visit for a special occasion as it is quite pricey - some mains cost £25!

Absolutely everything! A wonderful place to go to recharge batteries and chill out-the hot tubs outside and all the facilities inside make this the recipe for a magical, memorable day.
