“Customer Service to be desired from Owners”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2011

Stayed 3 days in a deluxe room on first floor. Our choice as we wanted the 7' bed, so cannot blame the b&b for the noise out front. Deliveries started at 7am if not earlier. Church bell ringing all through the night. Parking is no go. Leave your luggage and then try and find a space, which entailed going round in circles. Not advisable to park in public car parks as no overnight parking. You could park near the bridge which was about a mile away. Food was very good, room clean.

Surprisingly the owners did not greet us over the period of time to enquire if all was satisfactory, which is a new experience to us. This is left to the staff and possibly too much for the owners to handle. The staff were very helpful and their service excellent.

We moved on to a place near Pickering. another b&b, now this is what you call customer service. The Old Vicarage was superb, not only do they have 5 Stars but a Gold Award, this is how guests should be treated, could not fault them and cannot wait to return. [--]

Room Tip: At the back so it faces the cemetary!

We do not normally respond to guest comments as we like our customers to listen to all comments without bias from ourselves.

We'd just like to say that we open 365 days of the year and between 5th - 22nd July we took our annual holiday, we believe that this is the period in which you visited the inn.

We are delighted our staff to good care of you during our absence and sorry we could not meet you on this occasion.

From the moment we arrived we were looked after by the staff. The room was excellant and the bathroom was a very welcomed sight after a weeks horse riding in the lakes.
The small touches to the room and the attention staff paid to the guests was superb.
The food in the evening was well presented and really enjoyable as was the breakfast.
Looking forward to going back and would really recommend to anyone thinking of visiting the area.
Only downside if anything was there was no parking but there was plenty of street parking available.

We stayed at the Sun Inn over a weekend in May. Mark and Lucy were especially attentive hospitable hosts - thoroughly professional. The Inn is designer chic with all the right Lakeland style overtones.
The owners pay admirable attention to all aspects of customer service. Mark greets his guests on arrival and explains all aspects of their stay and concludes with car parking options - 5 mins walk up the street for free parking.
We found our standard room to be disappointingly small - just enough room to walk around the bed - with a view across a scruffy back yard. Noise insulation was reasonable but the tranquillity was spoilt by the constant drone of a fan/motor from the kitchen/bar below.
The bar is cosy and appealing and again peopled with impeccable staff.
We dined in the restaurant that evening and we were again somewhat underwhelmed. The chicken liver on brioche starter was delicious but consisted of a single tranche of brioche – at £5.25 a second brioche would not have been over extranavagant.
Similarly my main course duck breast was delicious but miserly and at £17.95 simply not value for money. My wife's Rump steak was slightly over cooked for medium requested - but again delicious. Our SA Pinotage was average and reasonably priced at £16.50.
Full English breakfast next morning was delicious and impeccably served – accompanied by a delicious selection of cereals, juices etc.
Throughout our stay we were thoroughly impressed with the attention paid to all aspects of customer service. The Sun Inn only disappointed on standard room size (accompanied by engine/fan drone) and dinner portion sizes - nouvelle cuisine but English-style – as we live in Paris, we feel well placed to comment.
In conclusion this review almost feels like a betrayal given the warm welcome extended by Mark, Lucy and their exemplary staff and is delivered in the spirit of constructive commentary.

Room Tip: Avoid the standard rooms

We stayed for two nights at the Sun Inn after seeing an offer in the Woman and Home. We had no idea what we would find but we were really delighted. We had a superior room on B&B basis and it was perfect. A lovely added touch of complimentary coffee whenever you wanted it at the bar plus coffee, flapjack and water in the room. The staff were really helpful and so pleasant - nothing was a bother to them. The position of the Inn was great - right on the main street on the lovely Kirby Londsdale town - idyllic. We are already trying to find a date to go back and we will recommend to everyone we speak to. We didn't eat dinner at the Inn but if breakfast is anything to go by it would be amazing - the homemade granola for breakfast along with the freshly stewed fruit was scrumptious. Thankyou Sun Inn for a lovely stay. The Macintosh's

I know that if we'd chosen a different hotel in KL, we would have wished we'd stayed in the Sun Inn, so I'm very pleased with the choice we made. We booked a Deluxe Family room and it was lovely. The bed was large (US King/UK Superking) and extremely comfortable with very luxurious bedding. The bathroom was nicely equipped with lovely locally made toiletries.

Service at the Sun Inn was terrific - unobtrusive but attentive and always friendly. The included breakfast was absolutely delicious and cooked to our requirements. We also ate at the bar and enjoyed both the food and drink. Being able to get freshly brewed coffee anytime was a great bonus, as was the complimentary bottled water and snacks in the room.

Re-reading this, it sounds like someone paid me to write the review, but that's not the case. Any negatives? Well, all this luxury has to be paid for, and it isn't cheap. Also, our room at the front of the hotel was subject to a little noise from the street, but this was not at all excessive and rarely disruptive. Parking is a minor irritation, but that's not the hotel's fault. I hope to visit again someday.

Room Tip: All rooms are individual. I think it's worth paying extra for the Deluxe rooms.

This is a lovely place to stay. We had our dog with us and she was made to feel welcome also. We have stayed in so called " dog friendly " accommodation before and found this not to be the case. The accommodation, food and service were very good.

Room Tip: We booked a deluxe room so we had more space. There was however no view as it was specifically for d...
