“Lovely 2 night stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2013

Just returned from a 2 night stay at the Royal Hotel in the lovely town of Kirkby Lonsdale.

Stayed in room 11 on the top floor over looking the market square. The room was large with exposed beams and a super king size bed and a roll top bath. The ensuite had a large shower. Both bath and shower were generously supplied with lovely hot water.

The cooked Breakfast was prepared using quality ingredients and the evening meals we chose, from both the table d'hote and a la carte menu were perfectly cooked, presented and very tasty.

The Hotel doesn't have its own car park but that wasn't a major problem actually.

I would finally like to echo other reviewers praise for the friendly staff particulaly the manager Jason.

We had a smashing time and would not hesitate to return.

My girlfriend, daughter and me stayed for 5 nights over Chinese New Year in Feb.
It was a great experience. The place has a great atmosphere, the service is good, friendly & helpful with a positive relaxed attitude it feels like staying with friends. At weekends the hotel fills up with lots guests staying over, have dinner, or just drinks at the nice bar or the cozy fireplace. It's a good mix of people; young & old, locals, from the surroundings and further. All seem to come for the same good reason.
The service is not the fastest but doesn't need to be if you stay there.
We had room 14 and 12. Well decorated, nice bathrooms, a bit to kitschy for my taste but there are other rooms if you like. The shower in room 12 had only quite hot water, no cold. Although it is not a business hotel I missed pen & paper. Also a second chair in a double room would help. The bathroom should have complementary tooth brushes & paste and some basic standard equipment. WIFI is good so!!
The food is nice, the local beers, especially the Kirky fantastic, the wine list could use a bit more confidence for my taste. Some good English (yes, they do exist), some Austrian or German whites, etc.

Jason the GM is doing a great job. Everywhere at the same time, always with a smile and a great talent of blending it all into a fantastic experience.

We will soon be back.

Room Tip: Check pics on the website, there are no pitfalls, just different tastes.

On arrival we were greated by the lady on reception who was very pleasant, and also a gent I presume was the manager, the guy was a total professional, a credit to the place. Welcoming, good local knowledge, and seemed to know the job inside out! The two young fellas on the bar we also a pleasure to be served by! Room surpassed expectation! Wouldn't hesitate to re-book next time we are up there. Staff, hotel and location, 1000% worth the trip! More than 5 stars if possible! BIG thanks!!

thoroughly enjoyed our stay, room 5 was wonderfully warm and comfortable, the best sleep in a long while, underfloor heating in the bathroom was glorious with a great double shower. dinner and breakfast served in wonderful surroundings - well worth a visit, would most definitely stay here again.

Loved our stay here! Check in was very efficient with friendly staff. Cute little heart key rings on the room keys, nice touch. We stayed in Room 8, gorgeous kingside bed with THE best bathroom in any hotel. Heated floor was so luxurious and the sunken bath to die for. The breakfast was great and served til a decent hour, not too early! Only problem was the limited car parking, and they asked to keep our keys in the event we should be blocking someone access and their staff would move it. Other than that such a great hotel, will be back soon! Thank you for a wonderful stay :)

Had a brillaint stay in Febraury - hotel has very modern / updated feel but some nice traditional touches (snug with the fire and newspapers a great place for a nightcap) - room fabulous - we were in room 13 which is one of the more affordable rooms but very, very impressed. Jason the owenr, very friendly and deicated host has also returned a left phone charger - many thanks!!!
