“Excellent home cooked food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

My wife and I had heard that a new chef had taken over at the Pheasant Inn and decided to have dinner there. We were not disappointed: a warm welcome from incredibly friendly staff; lovely cosy fires and a particularly warm and cosy snug in which to relax. The food was of a very high quality, certainly as good as any of the gourmet pubs in the Cumbria area. The belly pork and pease pudding is outstanding as are the salads. For main course we tried the beef and ale pie and the vegetarian crumble: both well worth trying. We live in Switzerland and are used to high standards. The Pheasant Inn is a superior restaurant and not to be confused with offering simple pub food. it represents good dining at reasonable prices. We understand that the Inn has recently changed hands. The owners and their chef are to be congratulated. On our regular visits back to Cumbria we will make this a certain port of call.

“Lunchtime menu”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2012

We only needed a light bite, and enjoyed a starter each (lovely pate and melba toasts; warm potted shrimp with crusty bread). I was sad we couldn't try everything on the menu, which was very well put together and seemed to offer something to please everyone.

“Change is good!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

We have been regulars for years and loved the food. What a shock we had when we turned up to find it had changed hands! However, it was fabulous and we will definitely continue to be regulars. The food was wonderful and the new owners have produced a very creative menu. They will also keep the menu seasonal which will encourage us to look forward to every season. Change can be good. In this case it definitely is.

“Excellent high quality family food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012 via mobile

We were on a weeks break, 7 of us age 7 to 65. Looking for good quality pub food suitable for many tastes. Could not criticise any dish, delicious potted shrimps, fabulous pies and sea bream with risotto which was outstanding. The lamb shank melted in the mouth and was served with delicious roasted veg. The best kids menu I've seen for years,a great combination of kids favourites and fabulous shepherds pie with veg which our 7 year old loved. Puds for kids at £2.50, wonderful sticky toffee pud and a huge pud if the same name for grandad from the main menu. Staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. Whether visiting the area or living locally we couldn't recommend The Pheasant highly enough. Try it you won't be disappointed!

“Amazing can't wait to go again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

We meet up with some family for walking in the area and were staying one night. We arrived on Sunday for Lunch, the food was fantastic and a real family run, country pub atmosphere. Heavy rain cancelled our walking for that afternoon so we sat by one of the 2 open fires in the bar chatted to the staff, read some sunday tabloids and generally had a lazy Sunday afternoon by the fire. We also brought our dog with us, who was allowed in the bar area which was lovely as we weren't worried about leaving him alone in a strange place, the staff even came over with biscuits for him as a treat while we dined. The rooms were spotless, spacious and comfortable, we had a Z bed for our daughter which she was very pleased with. I can not fault the Pheasant at all, we were made very welcome and it definately has a family atmosphere. I really want to go again soon. Definate 5 stars in my book.
