I had booked one night here as a surprise for my husband. He had often said how much he would like to stay mainly because of the spectacular setting. I chose the "feature" room option, knowing we would have a balcony and view of the weir.
On arrival, the staff at reception were friendly and efficient. Although we were early, we were taken straight away to our room, which did indeed have a great view. It was warm and sunny, so we enjoyed a drink on the balcony and could have been 'abroad'. The Thames beckoned and we crossed the bridge to join the Thames Path towards Marlow lock. An interesting hour was spent watching the lock keeper supervising the boats entering and exiting the lock. From here we walked back to the town, where the Thames Path continues in the opposite direction towards Oxford. We remembered David Walliams had recently swum the Thames from Lechlade to London.
Our evening meal in Bowaters was delicious. Probably one of the best dinners I can remember. The portions were generous and elegantly served. I do think £9.00 for a glass of wine is excessive, but it was a special occasion. Following dinner, we enjoyed coffee and chocolates in the lounge.
Breakfast was also in Bowaters and all the usual cereals, fruit, full English breakfast, toast, tea and coffee were served. All to a high standard. I considered the options and thought I'd order smoked salmon with scrambled egg, but this carried a supplement, which niggled a bit as the cooked breakfast was £17.00. on the menu. Considering the vast array of items included in the full English, I'm not sure a supplement for salmon is justified. Any way I opted for the Continental breakfast, which meant self service at the buffet. There wasn't much choice. Ham and cheese slices, individually wrapped cheese (not at The Compleat Angler surely?) and uncut loaves of bread, which required a balancing act to slice. The buffet was arranged in the middle of a busy area where staff were carrying hot food and drinks from the kitchen and guests were entering and leaving the restaurant. This arrangement could do with a re-think in my view. Perhaps I should have opted for the full English !
Summarising, we thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay and found all the staff friendly and polite.
Thank you again for the card and lovely chocolates left in our room. I'm sure we'll be back soon.
Pay a little more for a "feature" room to avoid disappointment.

Thank you for posting your detailed feedback on your stay. It sounds that the weather was good and you could make the most of the surrounding area. I am pleased that you had the opportunity to dine in our 2 AA rosette restaurant Bowaters. The wine at £9.00 would have been one of our more expensive wines by the glass and a 250ml measure, which is a 3rd of a bottle. Our breakfast standard receives many compliments so I was surprised by your comment on the lack of choice. The bread is left as a loaf in order that it remains fresh. The cheese in wrappers is equally to retain the freshness of the cheese, however, I do understand your comments. I am sure that you will opt for the full English next time and take advantage of the full experience. I suggest booking on a bed and breakfast basis so breakfast only costs £15.00.
