“Modernisation required”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

We have returned from the Hotel Riu Arecas in Oct 2013 - 24th sept to 1st Oct, and although it was a 4* Hotel it is very close to becoming a 3*.
We always go to Costa Adeje but this is the first time we have stayed in this Hotel (probably the last?).
The main disadvantages were:
-We were put into two adjacent rooms as we were with another couple but it was noisy next to the roads. They did however move us the next day to a more suitable room but above the main Kitchen.
-It is a long way to walk into Torviscus or to any main shopping areas.
-There is a lot of walking that may suit some people but not if you are elderly or have some walking disability.
-The rooms need modernising and the TV's are the old Box Type with no home English Channels like BBC1 or ITV.
- The food is more suited to our German or European friends.

*One good thing is the Staff were very friendly and would try to do anything to help you.

Room Tip: Always request a Pool view room to reduce noise.

We have been to this hotel over the past 13 years, and most of the staff are still there. They are very helpful and always smiling. There was a problem with the electric but they only had the generators for the emergency. This has now been sorted. Everything is always clean and the food is very good. Victor is so funny he keeps everyone laughing. All the bar and reception staff are first class.

Just retuned from two weeks at the Riu Arecas we booked the hotel for our wedding anniversary we e-mailed the hotel in advance requesting a high floor room overlooking the pool and where very pleased when we arrived we got the room we requested and a lovely bottle of champagne for our anniversary. We found the food varied and of a very high standard with something for everyone we found all the staff very attentive and friendly the hotel provide pool towels which you can collect between 8am and 12pm and can be changed daily there are plenty of sun lounges and parasols available at any time of day and no need to reserve them. We found the entertainment very good with a resident band and particularly the tribute bands, and you can use the facilities in the Riu Palace directly opposite as well. Found the drinks quite reasonably priced and very good measures

To the front of the hotel are a small supermarket and a shop to book excursions. To the rear of the hotel down some steps, leads to the sea front, there is a lovely kiosk in the shape of a strawberry that sells freshly made fruit smoothies and mojitos. If you turn left at the sea front there are some restaurants bars and boutique shops. The promenade stretches for miles. Turn right on the sea front and it’s about a twenty minute walk into the beautiful fishing village La Caleta

We spend 5 days at Riu Arecas and enjoyed every minute of it. The staff was extremely helpful and polite, the room was very comfortable (although the tiny TV was a bit disappointing) and the pool was clean and with plenty of sun loungers. Breakfast and dinner were included and the food, while not gourmet, was reasonably varied and always super fresh. I would definitely go back.

Great food, friendly staff but the hotel needs the electricity problems rather than huge generators outside reception. On several occasions there was heavy duty drilling round the pool digging up concrete.
If the hotel had a facelift and sorted out the generator, the hotel could be beautiful and worthy of Thomson's A La Carte status.

Stayed here for ten days in August and can't fault it. Its clean, staff go out of their way to help and the location is very good, although it's a little bit of a trek down to the promenade with a push chair due to the number of steps.
The pool area, as other reviews have stated is well maintained and there are always sun loungers available due to the fact many people choose to take the short walk down to the beach.
The food is very good and yes its repetitive as one review stated, but its buffet style so that's inevitable. All dishes have labels on and there are plenty of staff about to ask if not.
I do agree with the one review that the cleaners seem to make too much noise to early in the morning but this wasn't every day.
Entertainment was good although we all preferred the cd that was left on when the 3 piece band had a break. Every other night there was a show inside which was very good and some quite amazing spectacles such as the Chinese acrobats.
Entertainment for kids was also excellent and our 5 year old spent all day looking forward to the mini disco. During the day there were a few activities for kids but the pool was very well designed that ours spent most of their time in there.
All in all a excellent holiday and another Riu experience I can't really fault. I'd definitely go back!
