“Excellent mid-sized resort hotel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2013

I am Platinum on Starwood and Diamond on Hilton, so I stay in a lot of hotels but that is mainly due to work. This was holiday.

The hotel is about 10 years old, odd that it isn't on the internet satelite pictures but I guess that just shows how out of date they are.

The staff are very good, all very helpful and nice to deal with. The hotel has a relaxed feel to it, perfect for a holiday. I stayed with my wife, and due to our kids growing up we have just switched from villas to resort hotels. This was a nice surprise.

The basics, the hotel has two main pools, a large heated freshwater pool and a larger cooler seawater pool. In addition, the freshwater pool has an additional shallower pool above it, and the seawater pool has a large freshwater jacuzzi on an island in the centre. The kids club, which seems to offer all day stuff to do also had a small pool for young children.

Food. The hotel has a large buffet restaurant that I guess is meant to cater for customers on food included packages, but anyone can use it. The menu changed everyday for 7 days. The one day I looked (the BBQ day) it looked pretty decent. In addition it has a Japanese restaurant open 5 nights a week, which we tried to eat in, but it was full (our fault, the desk told us to book) and a Spanish place which was shut for renovation for some of our stay so we didn't try. There is also a bar by the seawater pool, which serves bar food (pizza, sandwiches etc) and a restaurant that serves Spanish style lunches. Being a Brit a full blown Spanish lunch is a bit much at lunch time, but the food was good and it was a shame it wasn't open in the evening. One night it was, for a Flamenco evening to be completely correct.

However, the hotel is very close to many outside places to eat. A couple of minutes walk away is a small complex with two restaurants, a bar serving pretty decent cheap food and a supermarket. Caleta Village is ten minutes walk down the beach or 15 walking by road or a very cheap taxi. It has about 10 places to eat, some highly rated, We tried two both were decent.

If you walk the other way towards the big resorts down the "prom" within 20 mins you pass a lot of places to eat, some bars and shops, including a designer mall. Which is the same as any other designer mall really.

So the location is very good I thought. Beaches......well I guess no one comes to Tenerife for a beach hoilday, but there is a pretty sad beach about two minutes walk from the hotels lower entrance, and a half decent one about five minutes away. The bars etc above the beach are all very tasteful.

The rooms, they appear to be all different, we had an upgrade room on a high floor, but I was told the stuff in the rooms was pretty much the same by other guests. Well equipped large bathroom, two sinks, separate shower, bath in bathroom, separate toilet. The bedroom was a nice size, with a kettle and coffee maker and a poorly stocked automatic minibar. Apparently the rooms had previously had fridges for guest use. But these had gone. Ice machines were available though, and the bar was not outrageously expensive for a five star. Our room had a balcony with two sun beds, two chairs, a parasol and a table. This was not the same for all rooms though so check when booking. In fact always e-mail the hotel and see exactly what you are going to get. The staff were very helpful. After midnight it was pretty quiet, but this isn't a raver type of place. Mostly couples and people with older children, but it changes depending on time of year. We had people from UK, Spain, Germany, Russia and a few other places (even some Chinese) but it was the end of Euro school summer holidays, and even though the hotel was 70% full (I asked) that was the lowest season. The following week it was full. Mind you, at 70% it wasn't exactly crowded. I suspect you would never need to fight for sunbeds.

The hotel had an exec lounge which my status got us access to. This provided cocktails in the evening and some stuff during the day. The cocktails included draft beer, wine and spirits along with some decent snacks. One family seemed to be eating their evening meal in there. You need to check whether your room includes access, as some upgrade rooms seem to offer it only as an extra. So check.

I think the hotel is nicely designed. it is quite spread out, but has lifts at different points so you don't need to walk back to reception to get to the pools etc.

We would stay again and I hope we do. Very nice place.

Room Tip: Book on SPG.com and get the starwood points, High rooms in the centre of the hotel have a great view...

This hotel seemed to cater to families being welcome. It was a clean hotel. The restaurant staff and the Bell personnel were very helpful and friendly. The front desk staff seemed always busy and overwhelmed.
Our first room had a view of a wall (not the ocean) and the beautiful hotel next door. We asked for a room change and two days later they made the accommodations once the hotel rooms became available. That was very nice. The Bell Hop Trainee that helped us moved was extremely helpful and happy to assist us.
The Breakfast Buffet was very nice and the wait staff and kitchen staff were beyond our expectations.
The hotels on the island do not have beach access because there are no beaches. There is a promenade behind all the hotels that is nice to stroll on. I tried to go snorkeling but there was not any place easily accessible from the hotel.
The outdoor bar had entertainment and the woman sang beautifully. She was accompanied by a keyboardist.
Sitting out by the pool to watch the sunsets was especially romantic and beautiful.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask what the view of the room is. Ask for an ocean view and you will enjoy this hotel...

I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel, it is quite superb. The staff in particular are very helpful and friendly and genuinely want to assist the guests with any queries. The breakfast buffet is extremely large and varied including champagne if you want it!! The poolside area is well kept and there are plenty of towels and sun loungers. It has a very relaxed and quiet atmosphere during the day. I had a large corner suite with free TV access to the UK's BBC and ITV channels. The hotel is close to several higher quality restaurants and shops just a short walk along the sea front. More lively night time entertainment is available if that's your thing further along the coast for a ten euro taxi fare. My week long stay was so enjoyable I really did not want to leave. As a SPG platinum member I travel extensively world wide and spend a lot of time in hotels, this stay was definitely one of my most enjoyable.

Room Tip: The hotel is much better than it looks on the internet photographs.

We've just returned from 10 nights at the Sheraton. The hotel building is not the most attractive but the rooms are spacious and very clean with comfy beds. We stayed bed and breakfast in a deluxe room. Our room had a large balcony/terrace over looking the pool. The balcony didn't get any sun so it was a nice shady area when needed. Breakfast is great. The choice is amazing - there's even Cava.

The other reviews are right about wi-fi not being free in the room. This didn't bother us as we didn't come on holiday to sit in our room on the internet. There are computers with free wi-fi in the lobby area and there was always plenty free.

There are a few restaurants outside the hotel and La Caleta and Costa Adeje are both a short walk where there's more choice. There's a great little place along the sea front towards Costa Adeje that sells lovely milkshakes and smoothies. It's shaped like a melon so you can't miss it.

The staff are attentive without being intrusive. The housekeeping staff are excellent.

The bar has a great range of drinks in the evening. They've got a range of frozen mojitos which aren't too expensive.

The pool areas are spacious with lots of sun beds. There are signs on the sun beds saying that reserving them is not allowed but nothing is done when towels are put out. The whole atmosphere is so relaxed that very few people reserved sun beds though.

Dear Guest,

Thank you posting your comments, it fantastic to hear that your stay was as expected. Breakfast is certainly one of our must at the hotel, and the best way to start a day full sun and relax. Concerning the sun loungers, we highly recommend that they should not be reserved and will work on the issue.

Hope to welcome you back soon at Sheraton La Caleta.

Having stayed at the Sheraton the year before we decided to go back, this year we found the staff a little less accommodating and on our last night we came back to the room and my mac laptop was damaged, the hotel denied doing the damage which is just laughable as there was a huge dent on my laptop which is aluminium so they had obviously dropped it really hard on the marble floor and the went on to blame me, the cost of the repair or replacement is in the region of £1,000. Cesar the manager was rude and dismissive and never once apologised either in person or in his email to me. the email was just a disgrace basically calling me a liar. My 3 rooms and £7,000 will go somewhere else next year. Beware of your possessions and credit cards as last year they milked my card as well. Other issues are be careful not to take a roll for the kids at breakfast with you to the pool otherwise the hotel police will be on you!

This was our 2nd visit to this hotel. An upgrade had been organised in advance. The superior rooms are spacious and did not disappoint. Everything from check-in, food, cleanliness and staff delivered to a very high standard. Always plenty of room at breakfast and plenty of sunbeds in the pool/garden area.

The wifi is available in one area of the hotel. If you require it elsewhere then it's €30 for 7 days for up to 3 devices, I thought this was ridiculous for a 5* hotel and have not encountered it before.

Staff were friendly and professional at all times. I only had one issue with a receptionist who wasn't very helpful with organising a late check-out and offered a courtesy room for 30 minutes. I did get quite stressed out as our flight was late evening and I had emailed in advance to ask for the late check-out. All she would say is it was based on availability but offered no solution. I returned to reception again and asked more firmly for a room for several hours and thankfully it was sorted out.

We would recommend this hotel and would definitely consider retiring in the future.

We've stayed here 8 times - first review though !

After a year visiting other holiday locations we were delighted to return for a short stay. We stayed in a Club suite - these are spacious, clean and perfect or a family of four. The balcony in our room was more like a patio, with wonderful views across the bay. Beds are fabulous too..

Breakfast by the pool is a tranquil experience, fabulous attention from the team there as ever.

Lunch at the poolside bar delicious - well chosen wines and friendly service. Evening meals at the buffet restuarant were fab, with delights such as seabass,, tuna, steak and swordfish available to be cooked to taste. If you ignore the desserts you can stay healthy on holiday with the selection of salads !

Club room facilities are wonderful and worth paying for for quiet breakfasts and access to the lovely club lounge.

Pools seem quiet even though occupancy was high - for the first time we noticed that the grouting of the pool tiles was discoloured.

Overall, we can't fault the hotel for friendliness and just getting it right every time ! Thank you

Room Tip: Club suites are worth paying for
