This is the second time our family has stayed here. The first time was two years ago when our boys were 3 & 2 (they're now 6 & 4) and the hotel had just opened (we went in May and I thin k it had taken its first guests in March or April). They couldn't do enough for us then, and although you could just put that down to a high staff to guest ratio, it was every bit as good this time when they had 100% occupancy.
The care started when we tried to book two connecting rooms. We were told by email that none were available, but they could move us to a suite with ocean view and two single beds for the boys in the living room (despite being a little sceptical that they'd fit, it was never a problem for the whole week). The two beds were free (should have been 30-ish euros each per night, I think) and they also allowed the kids to eat on half-board for free (should have been 17 euros each per night).
The hotel is spotless, yet not soulless. It did feel pretty full by the pool (top tip – get your towels down early to bag the best sun loungers! Preferably by 8.30am), but never oppressively so. We never had to wait for a table at dinner (though we did eat quite early), and another tip is to make sure you get club room access – free afternoon tea, soft drinks all day and alcoholic drinks from 6-8pm every day. Remember to tip the club room steward. Some comments have referred to the hotels red colour. While it is an...unusual colour for a hotel, I had a lot of time to reflect on it as I sat by the pool watching my kids repeatedly throw themselves into the water, and I have to say it is more fitting for the island than you might initially give it credit for.
The only grumbles I might have are that the Kids Club is a little limited in scope, and really only appeals to the very youngest children (ours are too active to really care for a lot of the sedentary games they play there), and that the food in the Parador restaurant, where all the half board meals are served, gets very bland after a while – a week is about as much as its possible to take of it. Finally, the pillows are terrible. Other reviews have noted this, and they are thin and not conducive to a good nights sleep. Why they have them is a mystery, as they use the sweet sleeper beds, and yet these are non-standard Sheraton pillows. Still, take full advantage of the club room, and sleep isn't an issue!
Other than that it is an excellent hotel for families and couples (most families congregate around the freshwater pool, while the salt water pool and 'garden' areas are much quieter and offer more relaxing surroundings for those without children. There are several other restaurants available for guests to use, and if we didn't have offspring we'd have gone there – Japanese, Spanish and a restaurant serving fresh fish cooked to order are all reportedly excellent. Bars are good, and professionally staffed by generous pourers, and all cleaning and other staff are professional and courteous to a fault.
The Spa is well appointed and reasonably priced, staffed by well-presented and entirely professional people. It is a great way to further unwind in a perfect place.
