“A great place for families or if you don't mind the crowds”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

As the name states Isabel "FAMILY" Hotel is exactly that.
We decided to go half board after reading trip advisor posts and am glad we did. You do miss out on the free drinks and lunchtime snacks or meals, but the cost of drinks in the hotel or outside was very reasonable, so no worries on that score.
Check in was fast and very efficient.  Given a map at reception and a bit of an ordeal to find room but made it after a few false turns.
The living room was very large but dated and had double doors to huge patio with table and chairs.  Kitchen was spotless and had a coffee filter machine, microwave and very cold fridge.
Bedroom has double doors to balcony as well and large sliding door wardrobe. It also has a safe which you could pay for if needed.
NOTE the locks to the sliding doors are a bolt at end of the door, not at the opening end. This is more secure than normal sliding door locks which could be easily forced.
Our balcony got the sun until 8pm which was great as you could chill-out reading and having a few beers before heading to dinner.
Towels were changed and the room cleaned daily. Only once did the maid forget to leave towels and toilet roll and a call to reception got them delivered in a few minutes - great service.

Breakfast 0800-1000
The food selection was very good, but liked dinner time it was a real hassle to work your way carefully through the crowds at the food stations.
We had breakfast at varying times over the 2 weeks, ranging from 0800 till 1000 and I don't think there was any noticeable difference in the volume of people apart from a huge increase at the weekends due to Spanish guests coming in for the weekend.
British, European and Mediteranian food is served.  Coffee was from a machine and wasn't too bad.  Thermos flasks were available which had proper coffee.  Juices were the diluting type but several mornings a chef was juicing fresh fruits free of charge, something that's normally charged for in other hotels.  Nice one.
Seating outside was nice as it became very hot & stuffy inside.

Evening Dinner 1900-2200
Our first evening it was all a bit too much to take in. Waiters show you to your table quickly, place your order for drinks and then its up to you. The volume of people at the food stations was a killer. Also, the tables were so close together it was uncomfortable.   However, day 2 and onwards it became easier when you started to know where things were that you liked.
They catered for every taste imaginable. Brilliant carverys' most nights, fresh gammon, roast beef, ribs, pork, veal, fish etc.  Large selection of food for vegetarians available.
Large salads elections and a great kids food section which also had the italian foods.  Fresh pizza with every type of topping available, lovely fresh pastas' and sauces every night.  Garlic bread was really very good.
Every night we looked forward to having the soup from the choice of two available (+gazpacho every night). They did garlic soup one night and it was awesome.
The deserts were absolutely excellent with small bite sized mini pastries filled with mousses, almond paste, sweet fillings, fruits etc. ice creams were also excellent but always huge queues. Very large selection of fresh fruit.
Biggest downside was the heat that built up in the restaurant as the air-conditioning never seemed to work,

Evening shows
We ate early one night and went to the Michael Jackson show. Why did we eat early? It was to get a table outside in the plaza where all the shown takes place. Most nights when we had finished dinner, there were no seats available.
The evening entertainment always starts with kids activities and main acts around 0930 or 1000.

Pool.
Sardines spring to mind. Far too many people crushed into one area. The pool doesn't open till 0800 but people have towels down to reserve beds from 7 Onwards.  Signs around the pool stated towels would be removed but never saw this happen.
Despite having a separate kids pool, which always had lots of empty beds, a lot of the small kids seemed to be in the very shallow part of the adult pool which was a real pain at times especially if there was a really noisy bunch around.  The pool was large so you can get away from the noisy end. The pool was spotlessly clean and beds and pool area washed down daily.
Bar at the Pool
Large and clean cafe and bar area.  Prices for snacks same or in some cases much cheaper than outside hotel. Tapas, lasagne, sandwiches, prawns, salads and lots of other dishes available. Also has the AI buffet in a separated area of the restaurant. Interestingly they lay tablecloths out for paying guests and a lot of attention paid to guests by the bar.

TIP: discount vouchers are available and definitely worth buying. Non alcoholic drinks 15euros and alcoholic drink vouchers 25. You get 10 vouchers

Outside Hotel
The tram runs from outside the Fanabe sister hotel ( just across the road) and it's €9 return to Toriviscas beach. A nice relaxing journey but not the cheapest way to get around.
The market is across the road and held every Thu and Sat. Worth bargaining a lot to get the price you want. Next to the market is the bus station and you can get busses to most parts of the south island from here, cheaply.
On the left of the hotel is a small mall and a large supermarket in the basement.
Just before Babushka cafe bar, there is a ticket agent and they are much cheaper than buying trips near the beach or in Toriviscas

Room Tip: check out the room maps in the forum and email the hotel before you arrive

Dear wynrol,

thank you for the time spent in reviewing in detail Hotel Isabel in TripAdvisor.

We hope you accept our excuses about any inconvenience caused due to the noise made by children by the pool and thank you for being tolerant with the little ones. Fortunately, Hotel Isabel is wide enought and we recently opened two solariums in the hotel that are quiet areas for those adults that are looking for peace and calm meanwhile reading or simply relaxing .

All our team is pleased to know you are satisfied with the quality found during your holiday stay, we work hard on daily basis to meet our demanding guests expectations and keep improving services and facilities to improve and offer the most pleasant stay possible.

Looking forward welcoming you in your next holidays in Costa Adeje

Dear Dunlop12,

thank you for the time spent in reviewing Hotel Isabel in TripAdvisor.

We do apologize for the sunbeds issue pointed. In order to make sunbathing more pleasant we did recently opened two solariums, quiet areas our guests choose to sunbathe and relax where there is more space, in our opinion, ideal for adults.

We are all very happy to know you are satisfied with the hotel staff, services and facilities. It's priceless for us to read our guests have had an enjoyable stay as it encourages our team to keep working to offer the highest quality posible.

Looking forward welcoming you in your next holidays in Tenerife

3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2012

We stayed only one night but the whole experience was pretty shambolic and the room quite poor for the price and star-rating of the hotel. The staff were very friendly though. It's entirely possible that we just got a bad room and that the rest are much better, especially given the number of positive reviews on TA, which is why we booked the hotel in the first place. But in a way that irritates me more...there shouldn't be 'bad rooms' and 'good rooms' if the maintenance team are doing their job properly.

Check-in is something you want to be painless after you have travelled for several hours by charter or budget airline, when you are hot, thirsty and a bit tired. Sadly, as we found typical in Tenerife, it was a pain in the bum as the hotel needed a printed 'voucher'. Hotels, frankly, should have details of your reservation and just require your passport to confirm identity. So we had to log on to the wifi, email our own confirmation email to them then wait for them to go, check their emails and print it off, then go away again with passports for photocopies and complete the full details form (again, these details are in the original reservation). 15 minutes later we were then sent, with our own bags, to the wrong floor, came back down, then were shown again to the wrong place again and then finally to the correct floor by a very friendly but clearly untrained member of staff who didn't know where the rooms starting with '1' were. Fair play, the friendliness was what probably prevented us getting annoyed at the time, and that friendliness was replicated throughout the staff.

The room (152, I think), although a non-smoking room, reeked of smoke. The outlook was straight into another room on the other side of the pathway. The room was roasting when we got in and the air con took a few hours to bring the temperature down to the setting that we put it to (having to put it to 16 degrees to get it to kick-in in the first place). The bathroom ceiling's 1970s-office style polystyrene suspended ceiling had clearly come down in a leak from a room above and hadn't been repaired, being mouldy and looking like it was about to fall down again. The bath is about 40 cm high, with a not-entirely clean looking shower curtain in the narrow bath, so you have the choice of having a shower curtain wrapping itself around you or putting the shower curtain out of the bath and flooding the bathroom floor (which might account for the state of our ceiling). There was a hole in the ceiling over the sink in the kitchenette which had odd black stuff hanging out of it.

Overall, the room just needed a good couple of hours of maintenance work from a decent handy-man and to be aired/given a good Febreze-ing to get rid of the stale smoke smell. The facilities throughout the hotel on the other hand looked absolutely fine though our main focus was a good night's sleep before moving on.

Overall, if you get a good deal for a week, get a better room, I'd say it's probably good value for money. However, for the £60-odds that we paid for one night, I'd expect better and it didn't live up to its rating on Trip Adviser.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view over the pool or you might be looking straight out into another apartment...

second stay at this nice hotel, which may be perfect for families with small children. all inclusive hotel with good swimming pool (for kids) a good tennis field and ditto beach volley. the surroundings at Costa Adeje are nice, clean and it seems like little criminality (it's I.e. safe to leave your things on the beach and go swimming), but maybe at bit boring?
It s just a short taxi ride to las Americas with (more) nightlife ...
the hotel offers good value for mOney i think. avoid rooms 150-155, 250-255 I would suggest.

Dear Lhkvande,

thank you for the time spent in reviewing Hotel Isabel in TripAdvisor.

We hope you don't mind if we explain why there are safes in the beach, it's a simple matter of safety that helps to avoid unpleasant situations. Fortunately Costa Adeje has a very low rate of criminality, it's very safe place, but some people takes very valuable things to the beach, as high ammounts of money, expensive jewelery, camaras, laptops, passports, etc... which in our opinion, and so the local authorities one, shouldn't be left unatended, that's why lockers were set on the beach.

Visited the Isabel All Inclusive in sep for 1 week with my boyfriend. Had a fantastic time, we had a lovely apartment on top floor with views of pool and down to the sea. Food was really good, always plenty of choice, always different meat and fish options, pizza, pasta, chips, veg, salad etc.

Pool was fantastic, it was heated which was great. 10 min walk to beach and promenade and lots of nice restaurants on seafront.

Staff really friendly, hotel has a lovely laid back atmosphere would definitely go back.

this hotel is definatley very clean .... the rooms, the pool, in fact everywhere.
the pool is a good size and plenty of sunbeds so no problems getting a good spot even if you leave it til later.
very family orientated, but we still enjoyed it despite going as a couple.
the staff are lovely, very friendly.
the entertainment is not automatically in english as we are sooo used to so it takes a while to get used to being the third language.
the cocktails, although quite tasty, had very little alcohol, which is probably a good thing in the heat over there.
the breakfasts were great .... a wide selection of everything. i enjoyed the fresh fruit. and the coffee is good.
the lunch and dinners also had a good selection for everyone.

must mention the 10 oclock "good morning" song around the pool ..... such a simple thing really made me smile and feel like i was on holiday !!!!

There are I imagine cities in eastern Russia with a population smaller than this hotel.
Our mistake when booking the holiday was we thought, 'Isabel Family hotel' meant a 'family run hotel' when in fact it meant they catered for families.
The activities and entertainment focussed for young families was very loud and difficult to avoid, hence we hardly used the pool (asuming we could have got up early enough to get our towels on a sunbed) and never stayed for the cabaret in the evening mainly because the acts weren't very good, were very loud and the area confined and very smoky.
Our appartment was beautiful and well appointed though and absolutely spotless, all the staff (minus some in the restaurant who had wandered off the set of Cell block 'H') were pleasant and helpful, The restaurant seemed to struggle a bit to cater with such a large number of guests. We were sometimes frog marched to a table with no attempt to see if we had any preference or were in fact managing to follow them. Food was often wrongly labelled, on one occaision 'roast clock' was on the menu, by a process of elimination we worked out that it was 'ostrich'. Another tempting dish was 'fried milk', still not sure what that meant. Our plates were often whisked away before we'd put the fork down, on one occaision my husband got up to get a spoon only to find his dessert had been removed before he'd started it.
For such a huge place another, alternative bar would have been a good idea maybe by the pool or outside at least.
We weren't fully inclusive but half board, practically second-class citizens in the eyes of the Maitre de. who cast his eyes to heaven every evening when we failed to order drinks with our meal and to be charged €1.90 for a small bottle of water, is I consider RUDE!
We will not be back, this place is not for us.

Dear 007 Chris,

thank you so much for sharing your experience at Hotel Isabel in TripAdvisor .

We are really sorry to know the name of our Hotel has caused some confusion. Our Hotel belongs to a Hotel Chain run by a local family, on the other hands, having 4 hotels, three of them very big, more people is needed to fully run it.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused you by our entertainment programme. In order to satisfy adults looking for quiet areas we have two new solariums, highly valued for mature couples, adults in general and solo travellers.

Regarding the buffet dishes labels, fried milk is "leche asada" a typical local dessert. Please our excuses for our mistakes when placing the labels that identify every dish and for removing the dishes before having finished. We asume our mistakes and will work on improvements.

Looking forward welcoming you in your next holidays in Tenerife
