“Fantastic holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

We have just returned from a great holiday at Bahia principe and would recommend this hotel. The food in all restaurants was excellent with plenty of choice .The staff worked tirelessly and nothing was too much trouble.only criticism is all inclusive looby bar closed at 11pm which was too early and there was not enough sunbeds but apart from that really enjoyed ourselves

had a great 2 weeks at this hotel food was very good with plenty of choice, been to plenty of all inclusives but this is the first one where you pour your own drinks the asian, mexican and italian resturants were very good but we were only allowed to use them once during our stay even though we were there 2 weeks
the down sides you need good walking legs and spend some time working out the lifts as this can save your legs as the lifts go up in stages not much beside the hotel so need to go out but they have a free shuttle bus
make sure your up early to reserve your lounger as people reserve them from 7.00 and you have to sit with them till 8.00 or they get removed also people also reserve umbrellas but the same applies
the adult pool is not an adult pool as it is always full of children but its quieter than the main pool as there is no animation
the evening entertainment is very poor down at the bottom so make sure you get seats quick upstairs only problem is the bar upstairs is not part of all inclusive so you either pay or get lifts up and down for drinks
on the whole a very relaxing holiday and totally enjoyed it

stayed for two weeks in July 2009 with husband, daughter and granddaughter aged 20 months. Location is a bit far out from Adeje but the views from the hotel are amazing. Very clean, choice of food fantastic - even asked for plain strawberries for granddaughter which we got. Sun beds were a problem and I had to be up 8.00am if we wanted beds by the kids pool which was a small pool at the bottom of the steps/steep slope. Lifts available to take you from level 1 to 5, entertainment at night was across at the hacendia and down side was you then had to come back to main hotel to go down two flights of stairs to all inclusive bar. maid service as always excellent. our room was very big and plenty of room for 3 adults and a toddler. would recommend and would return again

3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

Stayed between 4/8/13 and 11/8/13. Paid a small fortune for what was sold to me as a brilliant 5 star hotel. Really wanted a suite but couldn't get one. Requested a high floor, pool view, and offered to pay extra for one. Ended up with a view of a service road, I had a palm tree growing onto my balcony and our view was a restricted sea view and not a pool view. Plus I was on the first floor. No requested fulfilled.

Hotel is miles from civilisation. It's sold as being in Costa Adeje. It's as much Costa Adeje as Glasgow Prestwick Airport is In Glasgow. Isolated is an understatement.

The approach road is a derelict building site surrounded by an old chain link fence. Not a great first impression. This is followed by an outstanding reception area. A huge cavern of a building. Large, airy, bright. No complaints.

Check in was a breeze and we were served by the nicest lady at the hotel. Pleasant, happy, polite, and extremely good with children. She spent time to speak to my 5 year old son and even placed a band on his teddy to match his own. Brilliant service.

My only issues were that we had to pay €30 deposit for 3 towels and €29 for use of the room safe. Not to mention €25 to access the wifi for the week. Expensive first day. €10 of the safe cost was a deposit. The wifi was poor and the signal wasn't the best. You are also limited to one device at a time. So more than one person couldn't use it at a time in your group unless they bought additional €25 codes. I've stayed in 5* hotels all over the world and have never paid for wifi and a safe yet. Massive negative.

Our cases were delivered to our rooms prior to us finding them. The walk from reception to our room was a long one. But it was even longer walking back up. It was up hill. The gardens and grounds were immaculate. The cleanliness of the hotel in general was excellent.

First impressions as we passed the pool was that it was going to be impossible to secure a lounger etc. there were rows upon rows of beds, with towels covering them and their associated umbrella secured by a sarong. Yet there were no people using them. 2 hours later they were still unused. This was the way it was all week. Same people, same beds same results. Ridiculous given they state that its forbidden. Hotel needs to sort it out.

We could never get a reservation in any of the restaurants. Having a 5 year old waiting till 8.30 for dinner isn't possible. We dined in the main buffet restaurant. For every meal. The staff in here were excellent. Never stopped moving, cleaning, or showing people to their seats. The food was plentiful and varied for 4 days. Then it was the same stuff rehashed and called something else. Panga Fish seemed to appear everyday. The food on the whole was good but on occasion it was cold, it was overcooked or was just really poor. The "hot station" was never ready when the restaurant opened and never had food ready. The older chef here was grumpy, moody and on 2 separate days I witnessed him using the same utensils for raw white meat and cooked red meat. Food poisoning waiting to happen.

The room we received was the complete opposite to what we requested. I understand this is a request not a guarantee but to not have a single thing we asked for was pretty poor. The room was a good size with 3 single beds. 2 of which were pushed together to be a double. But had separate covers, mattress, etc. the bathroom was large and and had double sinks. It was let down by the manky shower curtain and the ridiculous Western swing doors separating the toilet from the sink area. The room overall was dated and in need of a good update. The safe was too low down to actually use and the tv only had 2 English speaking channels. Not great when a child needs kept amused whilst adults are getting ready etc.

Overall the hotel was clean and family friendly.

Negative points that let it down:

Charges for the safe, the poor wifi and the towels.

Broken balcony safety barrier which was reported to the hotel wasn't fixed and left us without a balcony for 4 days. Unsafe.

Terrible entertainment. Same guy every night. Same songs. Boring.

The entertainment square had no all inclusive bar until 10pm. You had to pay for drinks from a separate pub located there if you wanted a drink or bring a plastic cup with you from the hotel bar. Not acceptable.

Worst thing I saw was on checking out another guest was refused a refund of his towel deposit because the hotel had misplaced his receipt. The arrogant and rude male on reception kept saying no and blaming the guest and was insinuating the guest had stolen the towels and had not paid for them. Given guests receive no copy of the receipt how can they be held responsible if the hotel loses the only piece of paperwork? Terrible attitude shown by the staff member, who appeared to be a manager. Black hair, small goatee beard. Stated that the guest would be sent the money if they found the receipt. Otherwise he would get nothing. The guest had been the for 2 weeks. Had probably spent £5000 on his holiday, had rented a safe for 2 weeks not to mention wifi and 3 towels yet gets treated like a common criminal because the hotel lost a receipt. Really poor and spoiled what was a really good holiday. If that's how the hotel treats guests then I won't be rushing back.

We have 3 holidays a year, and used to go to Costa Adeje 4 times a year before we had our child. We have always had a great experience and always found the Riu hotels to be the best. This hotel had many good points but the bad points were enough to put us off returning. We are already planning our winter holiday in November in Tenerife. I don't think it will be at the Bahia Principe.

Room Tip: Don't bother asking. No one seems to get it.

We would like to thank you for having chosen Bahia Principe Costa Adeje to spend your holidays.

We are very glad to hear that you have found our hotel to be very clean and child friendly.

On the other side, we would like to apologise for those other aspects that have not totally satisfied you like the room location or the fact of having to leave a deposit for the pool towel or the safe.

Hoping you will give us one more opportunity to serve you at any of the Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts in Tenerife, Mexico, Dominican Republic or Jamaica.

Another great holiday with family and friends. Hotel staff , excellent service as in previous years, wide choice of food. Sun beds not a problem for those who like an early start, but don't expect to rise at noon and get one. As in any other hotel we have stayed in its the early bird etc. sun beds could do with upgrading as they are not the most comfortable. pool area kept clean and the gardens are a delight so well kept. Rooms clean and comfortable, would certainly recommend to others.

Having stayed at the Bahia 4 times since 2009, we had no qualms in booking a fifth stay. In fact, due to unavailability last year, we were looking forward to returning to this hotel knowing the high standard and quality provided.

Some of those qualities still remain, however we were disappointed that standards have slipped. I'll focus on the positives initially:
Staff remain helpful - extremely polite and friendly. This is a credit to the hotel. Every member of staff has a 'hola' for their guests and are eager to help.
Cleanliness is obviously still a priority for this hotel - rooms are cleaned daily with the mini bar stocked up and fresh towels being left. The grounds are immaculate and a pleasure to view over a drink on the terrace.
Minimum waiting time in restaurants - you are guided to your seat soon after arrival, with drinks served quickly and plates cleared away efficiently.
We requested a room on a high level, double bed with a sea view and were given exactly this!

The lounger situation is the same as most hotels although I dispute that you have to get up at 6.30 to reserve your bed! We were by the pool by 7.30 to choose our spot (which was a good spot!) - not once did we struggle. If you arrive by 8 you may not get the position you want but you will find a bed, admittedly later than that you may have limited options. The hotel does what it can to make the situation better, removing towels that have been left on loungers unattended before 8 am.

Now for the disappointing aspects:
The hotel is looking 'tired' with the majority of loungers looking unclean and with no elasticity.
No fee wifi - not comparable with other hotels of this rating in other countries, which normally offer 1 hour free per day.
Deposits now required for the safe in the room - not needed previously.
Entertainment - the same 'singer' 4 nights out of 7. Previously there was a different act every night over the week.
The quality of food has gone downhill - there is still a wide choice but there seems to be a lack of quality with regards to fish and meat dishes compared to what it was 2 years ago.
Air con in the room did not work sufficiently - to be fair we did not report this to give the hotel a chance to repair it.

Myself and my partner agree with the evening dress code (long trousers for men). However this is totally inconsistent across the genders. Night after night we noticed girls as young as 14 - 18, going into the restaurants with shorts as short as short leaving nothing to the imagination - butt cheeks hanging out. How is this acceptable? Restaurant Managers should stop this. Even more worrying is the parents allowing this!! Yet men cannot wear knee length shorts revealing innocent calves!!

We really are disappointed that we will not be returning to this hotel, as we have experienced lovely holidays however for the money we have paid this year we agree this is no longer a 5 star hotel. Our judgment comes from last year's family holiday in Mexico where we stayed at a 5 star hotel (Rui) which beats the Bahia in all departments.

I just echo what previous reviewers say. The hotel is lovely eventhough its not directly in the resort. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The pool and garden area was beautifully kept. The sunbed situation is a little ridiculous but we still managed to get sunbeds (as long as you get there before 8am). The food was good quality and choice and the restaurantes never felt crowded and you never felt rushed. It is more of a 4+ star hotel. I would have liked to have internet without paying for it and tea and coffee making facilities in our room would have been useful as our 23 month old likes a cup of tea when she wakes up. On the whole, you shouldn't be disappointed with this hotel. Tenerife is great too. There is lots to do but also great for doing very little.
One word of caution. We attended our Thomas Cook rep meeting on the first day and we were offered a free coach to the market on the Thursday. After asking what it involved and being told we would be picked up, taken there and brought back, I booked onto it. We were collected as required and then found ourselves driven into the north part of the island after picking up at other hotels to be taken into a room to be given a presentation selling matresses and aloe vera. Its called PAL. We were not the only ones to be mislead. We wasted a whole morning of our holiday. I asked at the time and was not informed this was the deal so beware.
Other than this we really had a wonderful time. I would recommend this hotel and would go again.

Room Tip: I emailed ahead for a sea view and a cot to be in the room for a rrival and we got both our requests...
