“Great Hotel not suitable for people with walking disabilities”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2012

On arrival we were given a glass of sparkling wine. We had booked a Junior Suite. I had informed the travel company Classic Collections that I was disabled and they arranged wheel chair assistance at the airport. I have difficulty using steps. We were taken to room 26 this was down 2 flights of steps with no handrails. The room was beautiful and had a large terrace overlooking the sea, it had 2 sunbeds a table and 2 comfy chairs and it was very large. I informed the hotel that the room was not suitable because of the steps, I was then offered a room on the 9th floor accessible by the lift and no stairs. This room did not have a sea view, or any sun beds on the terrace it overlooked the back of the hotel. Eventually decided to go back to original room and struggle with the steps. There are two areas of the hotel that are accessible by ramps. Unfortunately I could not access the elevated pool because of the stairs.
We booked bed and breakfast. The breakfast was excellent. You can also buy a half board option for 24 euros per person. The buffet meals were excellent. There was always plenty of sun beds available round the pool and the pool staff were all very pleasant and brought cushions for the sun beds, towels and an umbrella. All the staff were very pleasant and could not do enough to help at all times. I would certainly recommend this hotel if you do not have any disabilities.

Booked this hotel as an anniversary surprise for my wife, upgraded to a Junoir Suite with a sea view to make it special and hotel promised chocolates in the room on arrival.
On arrival,we were upgraded to a Senior Suite which was two floors below street level facing a concrete wall and would never see the sun, never mind a sea view and no chocolates,we refused to stay in this room and the hotel staff then showed us to a further three rooms which were just as bad.
Eventually the hotel manager intervened and showed to a seaview room which was what we expected to receive on arrival,The manager informed us this was one of the Hotels own selling rooms and not a room that they they pass on to Booking Agents (which is how we booked) and as a gesture of goodwill he would waive any further charges.
I shudder to think how much this room should have cost, I paid £1500 for a week through a booking agent plus flights on top.
We eventually got to our room about 5:00 pm after 15 hours travelling.
The Hotel was OK, room was basic,no frills, we visit Teneriffe 3 times a year and have stayed in better accomodation in this area for halve the price and twice the quality.

Room Tip: Don't believe what they tell you about your room when you contact them prior to arrival.

We spend 1 or 2 weeks in this hotel every year since 2003, it is the most beautiful hotel with the the greatest facilities and staff in this area.
It is in the edge of Playa de las Americas in a quiet area near the port, it has a beautiful tropical garden on the levels with excellent selection of pools.
Breakfast is also excellent, you can feel yourself like a king every morning.
Seaview rooms are awesome,

Room Tip: Seaview rooms are recommended.

I was here the last time in March this year and before that once about 10 years ago and 20 years ago respectively, sadly I observe each time that they are saving / cutting in room amenities and really saving on little things, but the breakfast buffets are still good as always, they are using wall mounted liquid soap dispensers like at a local Gym. Gone are the little give away nail brushes etc.

Hey Jardin Tropical, you're becoming "El-Cheapos"

There are not enough "guest contact" local Spanish staff who are most friendly and some remembered me even. All front people are mostly prety inexperienced Germans girls or Russian or North Africans with an attitude ( arrogant and full of themselves...) Management is invisible. The hotel runs on Automatic Pilot it seems. It's no longer an FIT hotel. People arriving with on line booking vouchers are given 2nd class treatment compared to other guest.

It's becoming like a "conveyor belt service concept" kind of a hotel. going down the path of Club Med (without the software that goes with it.....)..I think I will try another hotel on my next visit to this lovely Island, as they too accept Euros and perhaps give back service with a "smile". Still their pool garden is the best in the area, with the lovely but chilly lazy river in the lower garden by the sea, that would be the only thing I'll miss.

Room Tip: Stay here when the weather is warm to swimm in the Lazy River Pool with real filterd daily Sea Water...

We first visited about six years ago and found the same high general standards as before. However, there is one point that we should mention and this concerns the fact that the hotel is very difficult for those with limited walking ability. With all the health and safety regulations that have been brought in to being in recent years, it was a surprise to find that there was really only one effective handrail in the hotel, at that was down to the gym! In a hotel on many levels and with many steps, it is reasonable to assume that there would be handrails available at least on one route between all floors.

Just returned from a week at the JT, a few minor issues but no real problems. Our room facing the next door hotel was smallish fairly sparse but clean and well equiped with all the essentials. Nice large modern bathroom with double washhand basins, bath shower and sepearate loo. One peculurarity was that our bathroom window opened out on to the balcony of the next door room, not very nice for the occupants.
The reception and communal areas, especially the main bar are all very spacious and comfortable. Food, breakfast and dinner was excellent with a great choice. We particularly liked the "garden" area of the main resturant, nice convivial atmosphere, unlike the normal buffet resturant. We found no problem in getting sunbeds at the pool and the pool staff were always very helpful in arranging umbrellas cushions etc. Did not use the pool down at the sea level, not enough shade for us, although it looked very inviting.
The area around the hotel is a bit mixed, lots of bars and eating places, ok during the day but we ventured out one night and were not impressed, very loud music, pushy waiters, a "lively" clientel.
All in all a very comfortable hotel with good food and facilties, competent staff in an "interesting" location

Room Tip: Garden or sea view avoid the outside facing rooms

Location was very good, central but not in the middle of the city. Close to the sea, with a great swimming pool on the rocks. Excellent breakfast, nice rooms but the bathroom was a little bit outdated. (not very)

A great hotel to pick if you want to explore the nearby areas, rent a cab (it's not too expensive to go into town by taxi!) or rent a car and explore the rest of the island.
