This hotel has a glorious setting, perched above the beach a few kilometers to the west side of Tarifa. It is set in beautifully kept gardens with a pleasant pool area. Our room - on the beach side - was a good size and seemingly freshly decorated being clean and white throughout. The room was simply but comfortably furnished - no TV or tea / coffee making facility. The shutters and curtains meant the room was well blacked out at night. There was a really good sized safe in the room for valuables. The bathroom was a good size with plenty of hot water and toiletries . All very clean and cleaned daily. The buffet breakfast is plentiful with lots of fresh fruit. For lunch, the beach bar is a very good choice - menu the same every day but a good choice of salads. Nice desserts. Staff all very pleasant and helpful - not all of them speak English and some have only a very few words, but all are willing to help. Very laid back atmosphere. The hotel did get pretty busy at peak times with visitors as well as residents and is certainly not cheap, but it does have that wonderful position. We did not experience any noise issues while there even though our room was just round the corner from the restaurant terrace - room well sound proofed. Would certainly use the hotel again.
N.B. The way to the beach is down a series of quite uneven stone/brick/concrete steps so would be difficult for those with mobility problems and would need care with young children.

Just stopped in for some refreshment whilst passing by.. The atmosphere of the place was magical with thoughts of Casablanca or Somerset Maugham. We expected Mr Cairo to appear! ..Must go back for more than a mint tea and a cafe con leche! Sooo relaxing!

A really lovely hotel, although it’s not the cheapest in the area, but we felt it was worth the extra for the convenience of being close to the stables and Club Mistral which are on site. We’d booked riding for 4 days.

The pool was a tad chilly when we went (May). The gardens are beautiful and although it’s really windy on the beach the pool area is a sheltered sun-trap.

Good food, plenty of choice for breakfast & dinner and the beach bar for lunch was our favourite.

The room was fine although personally a little noisy as our room was at the front which is close to the road, even though it’s approx. 100m back from the road.

Overall a really nice atmosphere and will definitely go back especially as the riding was superb. The horses were fantastic and really well cared for.

The hotel is situated on the main road, just a few miles outside Tarifa so you’d need a car. If you’ve booked this hotel, I’d recommend checking Google street view which will help you when trying to find it, although there is a large sign on the road.

Overall this is a smart hotel with beautiful gardens and direct access to a fabulous beach. Dinner on the terrace is quite an elegant affair and food both here and at the beachside restaurant at lunch was good. Rooms and bathrooms were fine although pretty basic for Euro185 a night (facing sea) I think it was 160 for a room on the other side. The oddest thing however was the ramshackle collection of tatty furniture in reception which looked like it had been around for many many years and the somewhat eccentric and chaotic staff all of whom were nice although few spoke english. When checking out they had not included some drinks I had had at the bar the previous evening but had included several I hadn't ordered at dinner. There are cubbyholes stuffed with paper receipts and it is easy to see why confusion might occur. I suspect that they have been doing things their way for years and see no reason to do anything differently. Depending on what you are used to this place could be seen as charmingly eccentric or slightly shabby and inefficient. It's got more personality than many hotels and if you prefer somewhere a little less bland and corporate you will enjoy it.

I have stayed here twice now and also once at the sister hotel the Punta Sur just nearby. Both are excellent and the Hurricane is just delightful. The rooms are super comfortable and the buildings in neo-colonial or Moroccan style are endearing. The chiringuito offers a great way to have lunch including, unusually for Spain, a wonderful salad bar. There are two generous an deep swimming pools, a fitness centre, table tennis, stables for horse riding, rentals of surfing kit. But most importantly the place is built round the most beautiful gardens offering a real chill-out feel. The staff are attentive but not overly so. Breakfast (included) is excellent. The restaurant is a nice open air setting and the food is quite good. This really is a place to relax - enjoy the beaches (stairways direct from the gardens), food, nearby Tarifa and the overally experience.

Room Tip: Sea views are more expensive - as you won't be in your room much I would choose a mountain view...

We chose this hotel because of its proximity to the Mistral Club and the stables (Hurricane Hipica) and the fact that it has direct beach access. We had 'mountain view' rooms which weren't too noisy for us, it was windy so we could hear the wind in the trees most of the time. The road is far enough away. You can't of course see any 'mountains' but there is a wide communal veranda. The rooms and bathrooms are well set out and spacious, nothing fancy but very clean. The best option if you don't want to spend too much on the rooms. I don't think the front rooms actually have a sea view due to the trees. Beach towels are provided which isn't mentioned on the site, but good to know beforehand. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The hotel isn't quite as fancy as it appears on the site. It's in need of a general update but the terrasse/dining area is very nice.
We hired a car which is necessary to travel to the main kite spot (the beach at the Hurricane isn't suitable for kiting), Tarifa town and for sightseeing e.g. Vejer. The Hurricane beach is good for SUP and beginner wind surfing. The stables were great, good professional tuition and guides. Well kept stables and healthly horses. Nice rides out on the beach and in the hills.
The breakfast was good, bread, fruit, cereals, boiled eggs, ham, cheese. Different juices and great selection of tea and coffee. No bacon, eggs, omlettes, pancakes etc though. Best to avoid peak breakfast times if you don't like being jostled waiting for your toast! The breakfast area is rather small.
Lunch was excellent, copious salads, paellas, roast chicken, burgers down at the beach restaurant. Nice shady dining area and very relaxing. There's the same restaurant at Club Mistral, Valdevaqueros (also good but not as relaxing/friendly).
We had one evening meal, sat out on the grass which was lovely. The food was good but not amazing, but the setting made up for it and the service was good and friendly. There were 20 of us adults and children so not an easy group to cater for!
The pool area isn't the best for small children and people with mobility problems, the surface is very uneven and narrow around the pool. Although there is a grassy area. The steps down to the beach are also quite challenging. The short step ladder into the pool is not the easiest to negotiate and the pool quite deep, 1.40m-2m if I remember correctly. There is a second quieter pool area for adults, the pool is the same but deeper. It's not quite as zen as it looks on the site and needs a bit of TLC (tidying up). It's quiet and relaxing though and there is a very small gym where yoga classes are held most mornings.
There are very few hotels right on the beach in this area (lots of camp sites) and this is possibly the best. The only downside for me was that the garden is not as lush/tidy as it should be and there is a very un-sightly overgrown stagnant green pond at the bottom of the steps from the rooms to the pool!! Overall very good with just a few things that could easily be improved to warrant the rather expensive rooms.

We have been visiting this hotel for many years and after a break of a couple of years we went again in July. Still the same ambiance, still the same good quality food and service. To sit on the patio down on the cliffside having lunch in the midday sun is just magical, watching the fish jumping and the wind surfers plying their art is an added attraction. Keep it up for more years to come Hurricane.

Room Tip: Get one with the sea views
