“Do go!”

Only a little place but a nice visit and great fun. Don't wear pale clothes as the Pigs do nudge the back of your legs to make you give them more food!

“Little haven”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013 via mobile

If you like this sort of thing it is quite a nice thing to do to while away an hour or so. It's good fun to be followed around by a pot bellied pig or a sheep! If you're holding a bucket of the food beware! Some good work going on here. Well done to those who run it.

“Well worth the visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

Lovely way to spend an hour or so, especially if you have young children. Information supplied on all the donkeys' history which makes it more interesting. Pigs wander around the sanctuary as well and are partial to the contents of your food bucket. Keep up the good work!

“Well worth a visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

The sanctuary contains mostly donkeys but also some pigs, sheep etc. When we visited the last time they also had just taken in a family of new-born stray cats. The centre is run by volunteers from many countries and receives little in the way of support from the locals in Nerja and the wider Spanish community - which is a shame. The workers there are welcoming and ask only that you donate something before you leave. I have been 4 times now and always enjoy seeing what they are doing as well as saying hello to the animals. Not the easiest place to find but if you look at the various lo-line maps you can work it out. Coming off the main A7 motorway head into Nerja but turn onto the N340 going West before crossing the river. The sanctuary is not far along on the left hand side.

“Great visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2013

The sanctuary is definitely not a fancy one, but the animals seem well taken care of and the staff is great. Anytime I get to feed and pet an animal is a lovely experience for me so I definitely recommend it. The donkeys and the ponies are great, but I would say the pigs are the best addition there and certainly the friendliest. They follow you everywhere and push you with their snouts to ask for food. Don't forget to adopt an animal at the end! We adopted Flash, a cheeky little donkey!
