“Jimesol Hotel, Nerja, Costa del Sol”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

We arrived at the Jimesol exhausted and desperately in need of a holiday. We left 10 miserable days later feeling exactly the same except that we were also very stressed. The beds had rubberised mattress covers on top of the mattresses which caused us to sweat excessively and wake frequently. We were promised a room with a balcony which we had - what we were not told is that the room overlooked a noisy street with groups of men shouting and laughing loudly sometimes all night and bin lorries noisily emptying bins at 6am.There was no hot water until after 8 a.m. Breakfast was at 8.30 at the earliest so no chance of getting out early in the day. No chance either of a hot cooked breakfast as the food - fatty bacon and egg - was at best luke warm. Baked beans were stone cold. Plates were stone cold at breakfast and dinner. No fresh orange juice - in a country were oranges grow on trees in the street - just sweet cordial from a machine. Dinner was also lukewarm at best. The food was altogether not very pleasant (apart from the salad) . If one dared complain the response was nonsensical and involved a lot of ranting in Spanish between the waiters despite the waiters actually being able to speak English. Needless to say the food continued to be lukewarm or downright cold. A lot of the food appeared to be from a tin or packet with the exception of the meat which was usually tough as old boots and seemed to be reheated leftovers some of the time. Fish when we had it was a little better. Dessert was the same "packet" mousse every night - glutinous and artificial tasting. Or one could choose cold thin watery rice pudding after the first few days. Tiny cartons of ice-cream were hidden at the bottom of the freezer and covered with a sheet - presumably not meant to be used. Perish the thought of coffee after dinner. Not even a Polo mint. If anyone leaves a positive review they must be completely deluded much to the expense and misfortune of others who are not.

Room Tip: Just don`t go there

Stayed here 7th Sept for one week, not been to this part of Spain before. We booked with Alpha rooms for the first time, and have to say the service was wonderful. We were met by a very polite girl with a card, and taken by shuttle. On the return journey we had our own taxi to airport. Certainly book again with them. The hotel was adequate for our needs. Very clean, maid came in every day and changed towels and bed made up. Our room had a balcony overlooking a square with a distant view of the mountains. After reading reviews about the breakfast being warm, we had no problems with it. Eggs, bacon and sausage, with a cold meat selection. The receptionist was very polite to us. Did not have any noise where we were situated at back of hotel, room 106, but think if you were at front you would have noise from the bars in street. The beds were very comfy, slept like a log. The only downside was the pool, very small and only shallow. There are sunbeds and chairs on another level to the pool tho, plenty to take your pick from. The day we came home, a large party of youths took over the pool, so not good for any other people wishing to cool off tho. The hotel is only a fifteen min walk to the beach, and ten minutes away from the lovely centre of Nerja. Overall was not disappointed with our choice of hotel for the money we paid. We had booked another hotel and decided to change it, because of the location, and so glad about this, as on finding the other hotel, was too far out, and a long hilly walk into centre. Nerja is quite hilly, and finding taxis and buses is not easy. In my opinion you need to stay near centre, not much on outskirts. Would go again to lovely Nerja, a real spanish gem.

Room Tip: I think the back of the hotel is quieter. We stayed in room 106 which was fine. In shade until late...

I stayed at the Jimesol for 10 days. The hotel was in a good location. I was half board but i only ate in the restaurant 3 nights, the food was fine though and very varied, it's just that my daughter was staying along the road in Nerja and we ate together at night mostly. I had requested a balcony when booking which i didn't get so i was a bit annoyed about that. Rooms are basic. My only complaint about this hotel were that the staff just weren't friendly, one exception being the lady that cleaned my room every day. I would have enjoyed my stay much better if the staff realised they worked in hospitality.

I knew that the Jimesol was not in my favourite area of the town, but was not concerned because its in walking distance of the beach and the beautiful town centre. The reason we had to book was that everywhere else was sold out. I was not expecting too much as I had read others' reviews. We booked three smoking rooms and only got one, all rooms faced onto wells. The aircon in my room did not work properly. The worst experience was the breakfast, 3 of our party of 5, arrived in the dining room at 10:20 (breakfast finished at 10:30). We were totally ignored by the waiters. We got a table outside, which had not been laid. When we went in to get breakfast, we found machine juice and coffee. The actual selection was not too bad, normal buffet and cooked breakfast. We got our food, which was OK, but when we went for more at 10:30 they were clearing all the food, despite the fact that we were still there! After they had cleared most of the buffet, the waiter came and asked if we wanted anything else, to which I said it would be difficult given that he had taken everything - he ignored this. He then came and closed the door from the terrace to the dining room we were still there eating. We went out for breakfast the next day and will not return to the Jimesol.

Centrally located hotel in nice area. Varied and tasty menu. Helpful staff, particularly Carmen on reception who booked trips and taxis and gave us a good insight into the area. Rooms clean and the couple of issues we had with the shower were dealt with quickly and efficiently. On the downside, avoid room 304 as our view was of a brick wall about 8 feet away from the window and we felt this should have been disclosed prior to booking as we had requested a balcony.
The pool is only about 12 feet long so don't expect much of a swim here.
Overall, very good value for money and we had a wonderful holiday.

Room Tip: Enquire about the view via email prior to booking to ensure you are not facing the brick wall.

Just returned from Nerja, and this hotel was great for exploring the town. The rooms are a good size, clean and comfortable, and breakfast was great, with a Full English option (so unusual for Spanish hotels) as well as fresh fruit, cold meats, cheese etc.
The hotel's not in a very pretty part of town, but only a few minutes to the main square, which is very picturesque. The only problem was the noise from the street below, If you go here, request a room at the back.

Room Tip: See earlier comment.
