We stayed at the Riu Monica Hotel for our honeymoon. Upon arrival we were greeted with a glass of champagne and on arrival to our room there was a bottle of champagne waiting for us! All the staff were very polite, on reception, in the bar area and in the restaurant area. All staff would sort things out in an instant.
Food was GREAT! Choice in the morning of cooked breakfast, cereals, pancakes, churros, toast, teas, coffees and plenty more options. In the evening there was a buffet style with a different flavour soup everyday, plenty of salad options and the cooked meats which were also different everyday. There were also the usual chips and pizza for those fussy eaters. You do have to pay for drinks as with all half board holidays. There is an amazing selection of desserts!
Nerja itself is a quiet safe place with plenty of little side streets full of shops. Nerja cave is well worth a visit - but definately dont think you can walk from the hotel easily! The beach is literally down the steps. Lots of sunbeds 4 euros each for the day. We did go to the Market on the Tuesday but were a little dissapointed, think this was due to end of season. Thomsons also offer day excursions that look really interesting but make sure you take plenty of money for these or pay in advance.
The beds were average for comfiness but most beds in hotels are similar and they do provide extra pillows if requested. Towels changed regularly, bathroom cleaned daily and bed made. Cleaning staff were brilliant always did a great job. TV in room with 3-4 english channels for those rainy days. We were on floor 4 and had a lovely view on the balcony.
Pool outside was freezing, indoor pool similar but does feel warmer after being in it for a while. Gym is also on the way to the pool.
Entertainment provided in the evening, professional singers 3-4 nights of the week which were very similar in style. Flamenco dancing show was excellent and also the magic show was great.
Overall we recommend this hotel highly but maybe not so for kids.
