This is a good quality hotel. Our room was clean, spacious, and very nicely furnished. However, for us, one of the highlights of this hotel was the staff. Everyone, from the reception to the management, from the housekeepers to the dining room and bar staff, was pleasant, helpful and efficient. The evening entertainment gets pass marks, especially when we were there in low season and the rest of Nerja was quiet. The range of food was good, though perhaps not as extensive as some other 4 star hotels. Overall, this is one of the best resort hotels we have stayed in.

The hotel is very comfortable with delightful well furnished rooms and a splendid indoor swimming pool. The staff are very efficient and the hotel is kept spotlessly clean. It is however let down by unimaginative cooking which in the evening consists of food cooked in the dining room on hotplates and for which you have to queue. A lovely place to stay on a bed and breakfast basis

Recently returned from the Riu Monica. The hotel is very clean and nicely decorated. The bath towels are changed daily. The staff are excellent, reception and head waiter particularly. On the first evening for dinner we were allocated a table with which I was not satisfied. Normally this would not have mattered, but you are allocated a table for the whole stay. The head waiter unhesitatingly offered us another table of our choice. The Thomson rep was terrific. Our main concern was the food. We have stayed at numerous 4* hotels and without doubt the food here was the worst for a 4*. Limited choice and an almost absence of fresh fruit.

We have just spent 2 fabulous weeks at the Monica. The food was great, all Buffet service, but of the highest quality. I defy anyone not to find anything to their liking from either the Hot or Cold buffet tables.
The room was spacious, but I would recommend that you try to get a room on the western wing, on a high floor, because these rooms get the sun in the afternoon until dusk. Rooms on the main wing didn't seem to get as much sun on their balconies as we did.
