“A friendly family run gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2009

I visited the Hotel Parasio del Mar upon the recommendation of the Tom Tom in my hire car. I had been driving around a little bit lost in Nerja when I decided to call it a day and find somewhere to stay.

My girlfriend and I were greeted at the white washed hotel by the friendly owner who showed us the various rooms from their basic room to their luxury rooms with Jacuzzis and roof terraces. All of the rooms had leather sofas, marble bathrooms and good quality fittings. The rooms did look a little dated however they were clean and well maintained.

We opted to stay in one of the more expensive rooms with a roof terrace. From the terrace we had views over to the sea and to the garden with its various fruit trees. The owner kindly gave us some fresh strawberries and cava to enjoy in the room.

Breakfast was included and consisted of a simple continental breakfast served in the dining room and outside on the terrace both with nice views over the sea.

Parking at the hotel is situated in a small underground car park that is accessed via a car lift. The staff helped with the operation of the car lift and parking of the car. On the final day the owner offered to reverse the car out of the car park and onto the lift. This was a relief as my reversing skills in hire cars still needs some work.

The staff spoke many different languages and I overheard some other guest talking to the staff about how they had been visiting the hotel for many years. The staff also recommended a nice restaurant for us to visit within Nerja’s town centre.

The view from this hotel is extraordinary. Truly. It's possible we had the best room, which didn't hurt. In addition, the owner hosted a complimentary paella party for all guests the second night of our stay. That experience alone is enough for 5 stars. He is a great host who loves life and speaks at least 5 languages. As he cooked the paella outside during sunset, he taught us his recipe and gave us the history of the dish. Then during the meal, he sang us songs on the guitar from all of our native countries. And there were 5 countries represented at the dinner! Even though the hotel's decor is a bit 80s and our room's A/C could've worked a little better, we didn't care - we had such a great time staying here. Plus, the location is just great.

Just back from a week in the Paraiso del Mar - we loved it. A lovely friendly welcome from Stephanie on the front desk, she first showed us around and then showed us to our room. It was very spacious, with a large bathroom complete with jacuzzi bath. The view outside though is the thing - it is incredible, I never tired of looking at it. The beautiful pool & garden area and then the med just beyond, fabulous. Breakfast in the mornings on the terrace was perfect, great coffee, lots of fruit, yoghurt cereals again, and fresh pastries.

Nerja itself is a lovely little town, friendly, with lots of shops and restaurants. We found a couple of restaurants we really liked - Don Toscana and Lizaranno (or something like that) which was a tapas bar near the Balcon de Europa (turn right instead of left). Also the Los Barillos bar became a quick favourite with us (near the Hotel Carrabeo).

To sum up, the hotel was lovely, great location and a friendly staff. The ONLY thing I would say, is that the room we were in was right beside where they had breakfast so we were woken up every morning by the noise of the staff setting up, if we go back, I'd ask for a room on the 1st or 2nd floor instead.

Finally, the hotel gave us a bottle of wine to thank us for our stay there, which I thought a lovely gesture.

What a fantastic hotel. On arrival we were greeted by the owner Enrico who gave us a personal tour of the property. There is a wonderful terrace overlooking the sea and beach where we had our breakfast. Our room which was the "best in the hotel" certainly lived up to it's name. Wonderful bathroom with a fantastic Jacussi , comfortable lounge, and a large bedroom with a balcony overlooking the sea. There is a private entrance to the beach with many steps, however there are terraces as you go down, to stop and catch your breath.
There was nothing we disliked at all about this hotel. We highly recommend it.
The hotel is only a short walk to Nerja town where all the restaurants and shopping are.
We can't wait until we return again

We went as usual to the Paraiso this April, our favourite spot and we were offered the penthouse suite. whatever you do do not take this offer, the suite which is self contained does not match the cleanliness and high standard of the rest of the hotel. it is dirty shabby and in serious need of a complete overhaul and most certainly not worth the money they want to charge you for it. Its a let down to what is otherwise a lovely quaint and quirky paradies in Nerja.

Quite honestly, one of the nicest hotels I've stayed at.

It is a 2-star hotel, and that is reflected in the decor (very Spanish, lots of knick-knacks & ornately framed still life paintings - I'd say ugly, but each to his own...) and the standard of finish (it could do with a lick of paint, there are some ugly exposed pipes).

But that is nit-picking. This was a lovely hotel: clean, simple with a location to die for with excellent value-for-money and extremely friendly hospitality.

There were four of us in the Penthouse, with a wonderful terrace (few things in life are better than a glass of wine with your partner watching the sunset over the sea from your private rook terrace... I felt like a millionaire. Which was astonishing given that four of us were staying in the apartment for less than most hotels charge per 2person room!!

Throughout the trip the staff were helpful & friendly. We had drinks from the bar and at the end they waived the charge. On Sunday there was a huge barbecue for all guests with food, wine & music all afternoon all complimentary.

I hadn't been to Nerja before, but liked the town. If I were to go back, I'd definitely chose this hotel.
