Having read some of the reviews on this and other websites I nearly cancelled my stay at this hotel, but I'm glad I didn't.

We (2 adults early 40's and 7 year old) stayed at the Balcon hotel for Christmas and we had a lovely time. The hotel is stuck in a time warp as are some parts of Nerja, but this is what actually makes it endearing. The hotel is clean if not a little old fashioned, but with that comes good old fashioned service. The staff & service were excellent no one could do enough for us. The food was fine, ok not up to the standards of some of the excellent restaurants in the area, but overall very edible for a hotel (we were half board).

We enjoyed the Christmas Gala dinner which was 4 course including all your wines and music representing excellent value for money.

95% of the hotels clients were over 60 if not older, but we didn't mind, one 75 year old lady managed to drink me under the table!

This is fantastic location if you want to be in the heart of Nerja, accesible for all the restaurants with fabulous views out to sea.

The hotel has it's own car park at 9 euros a day which is cheaper than the town car park at 24 euros a day. However, we know the area a bit this is our 4th time in Nerja and when we left the hotel to move onto our next accomodation we found somewhere to park free of charge.

Does this hotel warrant it's 4* status. For all mod cons probably not 3* + but for the staff & service I would give it 5*. We were treated better here then any hotel I have ever been to, and I have been to a lot!

We have just returned from a weekend away with friends where we travelled to Nerja and stayed at the the Balcon hotel. What a fantastic place to stay. The staff were great, the food was amazing, the rooms were spotless and the location to die for. It was our friends first visit and we wanted to impress them. None of us were dissapointed it was fantastic. I would recommend this hotel and location to anyone who wants something a little bit special. It is central to all that Nerja has to offer including its own private beach along with some of the most beautiful surrounding beaches and stunning scenery you will ever see. Well worth a visit.

A great location, in the centre of town and right on the beach....thats where the good comments end though - despite the staffs best efforts we were extremely dissapointed. The whole place is desperately in need of a facelift, the rooms are extremely dated, the pool is basic and the exterior of the building is crying out for a lick of paint. Our balcony was smallish and all the natural light was blocked by a palm tree. Far better standard of hotels at more competitive prices - if youve been looking for hotel in the region and stumble upon this then I suggest you keep looking.

We stayed at this property for a week, first the good points - the location in nerja is ideal, right on the balcon, with easy access to lots of shops and eating places. We had a balcony and an upper floor room so we could spend a lot of time just sitting listening to the waves and people watching on the balcon.
The hotel itself as other reviewers have commented is not what you would expect of a 4 star hotel, probably more of a 3 star. You have to pay by the day for access to the safe and the minibar and the quality of the bedding and toileteries is not up to much. The breakfast was adequate but the evening meal was very poor. The small pool was nice to have a quick dip in, but the beach area was very small, although it appeared more sandy than a lot of Nerja's other beaches.
We spent a lot of our time on trips to other places, as we would have got very bored spending a whole week in Nerja. I can thoroughly recommend Malaga as an interesting place to spend the day, and very cheap and easy to get to on the bus.
