“Real Spanish food, you have to go!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

El Pulguilla is one of the few places in downtown Nerja that you will get real Spanish food. Try tapas & cañas in the bar and a few "raciones" (portions) in the restaurant at the back. We had (twice) "gambas rebozadas" (buttered shrimps) and "jibia a la plancha" (fried garlic cuttlefish) and you will not regret it. A must to go in Nerja if you want to try real Spanish Food.

“The first place you should visit for food.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013 via mobile

Agree with all other comments you must come here and try the tapas. Although it is very authentic, they are open to tourists having a go and on the walls they write the English and German versions of the tapas on offer. I would start with this place, learn what you like and photograph the english and spanish versions of the menu, before venturing out and trying some of the more local bars where you will need to order in Spanish. Try the black pudding, the king prawns and chorizo.

“A flavour of real Spain, you MUST try it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2013

This is a real Spanish Tapas bar, buy a drink and you get a free tapas whilst in the bar at the front. At the back you'll find the restaurant where you can enjoy some fabulous seafood dishes. This is one of the best places to eat in Nerja so you have to try it out. Its also full of Spanish locals and visitors so you don't feel surrounded by tourists which is great as it makes for an authentique atmosphere. It does get busy so if you fancy a drink and a tapas get there early when it opens at 12:30pm. The Spanish eat late in the evening, so you should have not problem getting a table in the restaurant up to 10pm. For more on Nerja and El Pulguilla, check out amwsemc.blogspot.com

“Great tapas bar, don't be afraid, give it a go.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

The place is a tapas bar with a restaurant behind. The vast majority of customers in the bar are Spanish and so this is not a usual Nerja tourist tapas bar, but... that is a good thing. There are no guys stood outside trying to drag you in, there is no need, at busy times you will struggle to get inside the door.

In the bar area which occupies the front of the property (but not the restaurant behind), you get a free tapas with every drink, which are themselves reasonably priced (under €2). Although most of the staff don't speak good English (this is a Spanish bar not a tourist bar), they are not at all sniffy about you not being able to speak Spanish, just go over to the glass display cabinet where the raw tapas are displayed, and point and smile. The tapas will then be cooked and brought over to wherever you are sat in the bar area. If you want something more substantial to go with a free tapas, you don't need to go into the restaurant, they are happy to sell you a ratione at the bar to share amongst you. Try the mixed fish ratione, a good selection of everything.

“Great seafood in an informal setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

We shared the Mixed Fried Fish as a starter after eating the very garlicky olives! Plenty of variety, tasty and good value. We both had fish as a main course, I had the Rape (monkfish) and my wife had the freshly caught river snapper. Both very tasty and healthy portions. We also had a large beer and a white wine, total bill about 44 Euro. Service was very quick, efficient and helpful. As previously stated, the locals eat here and you can see why. Didn't try the tapas, but it looked pretty busy every night we went past. Recommended.
