“Great location, but in need of renovation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

The hotel has an exceptional location on a cliff with 360 degrees view. The city of Jaen is not within walking distance. The rooms are in need of renovation, and our room had a very bad smell. The price was OK.

It's a very beautiful parador, with very typical decoration. All the rooms are well arranged with very confortable double beds. They all have a little terrace with a deep view on the village.
Breakfast is very various and good.
No problem with the staff. Wifi only at the front desk.
Very quiet place !

Room Tip: All the rooms seems to be the sames !

The jaen parador is an exquisite building with breathtaking views but it is somewhat a disconnect as the staff is generally unhelpful and the front desk bordered on being outwardly hostile and rude. I don't understand why a question related to directions into town or other sightseeing related topics should be meant with such rudeness.

The hotel is very nice being on top of a hill annex to a real castle. You need a GPS to get there (and need a car). The rooms were nice, the main lounge is like a castle room and the pool must be nice but it was closed in October. No problem using the Wifi in our room either. We visited the castle the next day but there is little to see. Make sure to visit the Jaen cathedral before leaving, amazing treasures.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with view, ours had a great view on the undeveloped valley and olive groves.

Our 6th stay in a Parador and while they have all been good we found this one to have the best atmosphere so far - stunning setting and the staff were friendly and relaxed. We stayed 2 nights and while we agree with other reviewers that there is not a lot to see and do near the hotel (other than take in the fabulous views), we used it as a base for a day-trip to Cordoba and an early morning visit to the Mesquita. This turned out to be a good move because after the hustle & bustle of Cordoba it was great to get back on top of the mountain and have a quiet drink in the afternoon taking in the Jaen vista. Room was fine, not the most spacious or best fit out we've experienced to date but still a good standard. Several really comfortable lounge areas (if anything, they're too quiet). Overall, a really relaxing and enjoyable stay.

Great hotel, great views, nearly all staff very friendly and helpful. Good food for breakfast and dinner.

Stayed for 2 nights, probably long enough as there is not a lot to do in the area, but a very nice relaxing break and chill out.

This was our fourth visit to this parador and it is one of our favourites. Last year we stayed in one of the superior rooms in the tower, but this time it was a standard double room. The location on top of a hill overlooking the city is stunning. The good sized swimming pool with plenty of seating/sun loungers and excellent bar service is an added attraction. The dining room serves excellent local produce and never fails to delight us. One of the best features of all the rooms we have stayed in is the balconies at the rear of the hotel with beautiful mountain views that are such a relaxing place to sit and read or sunbathe. The impression one has is of staying in a mediaeval castle with some stunning architecture. The cocktail bar with a three storey high roof has to be seen to be believed, and serves great bar snacks at lunch time.

Room Tip: Make sure your room has a balcony; most do, it's a pleasure to sit out and relax on.
