“Really Nice Hotel !!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2009

Myself and friends stayed in this hotel which is centrally located and on the beach-front. The rooms were nice and cleaned everyday. The staff were very pleasant and it´s in close proximity to both the fuengirola area and one more called los boliches. There can be found some nice restaurants if you get tired of eating in the hotel each night. The Oyster Bar is probably the best in fuengirola with Aroma second. In los boliches avoid mananas bar at all costs, the food is horrendous. But el rio is a nice and quaint spanish restaurant. Over all our stay was excellent in the florida and recommended.

Great hotel for all ages, right beside the beach with great sea views from the rooms. (may need to request a sea-view before travelling). Buffet style food was nice, but all in all clean with linen changed each day. English speaking channels on flat screen t.v.´s etc. Really enjoyed it. As for fuengirola, we loved it. Around fish alley are some really nice restauants and bars. You do get a bit hassled if you are sitting outside with guys selling everything from dvds, bags, belts and chinese toys that light up...
Just off fish alley we found a diamond of a bar/restaurant called the oyster bar. little off the beaten track just around the corner from a restaurant called moochers, but well worth a visit. The food is fantasic in taste, presentation & service. You don´t get the street traders as much so you can relax, don´t miss it!!!!
Have already booked the florida spa for may so that´s a good sign.

Fantastic service, great location. Only negative, you can hear guests in neighbouring rooms closing doors, showering, TV and more embarrassingly toilet ablutions.

We booked this hotel on the basis of the reviews on trip advisor and we were not wrong!
Location - within 50 metres of the beach, we had stunning sea views from our room. The room was very good with air conditioning, walk in shower, free room safe and mini fridge. The flat screen TV included many channels that catered for most nationalities including about a dozen english ones (BBC1, 2, 3, ITV1,2,3 Sky News, CNN etc.. Very clean and linen changed daily.
Reception friendly, but the best for me was the food. The restaurant was buffet style and fabulous. Waitresses very friendly and helpful. Every evening there were at least 3 fish and 3 meat main courses, loads of items on the salad bar, two different soups each night. Breakfasts catered for all nationalities with plenty of bacon, eggs, sausage etc for Brits who wanted full english but loads of other stuff like cereals, muesli, fresh fruit, croissants, toast etc as well.
The evening entertainment was OK but some nights were geared for Spanish residents, I still enjoyed watching the Spanish doing their flamenco style dancing.
Most people were middle aged to pensioner but a smattering of younger couples. Badged as adults only but one or two Spanish couples had nippers with them. They were all spoilt rotten by the other guests and were not a problem at all.
Nice outdoor pool, indoor spa too

Just got back from a weeks stay here and have to say it was fantastic. Hotel was lovely and well placed for everything. We had a sea view room which was great as you could see the sea and the harbour. We were on the tenth floor so was very peaceful. The air conditioning was very good(we needed it as it was very hot whilst we were there) and the safe in the room was free. There were bathrobes and toileteries and we made use of the small fridge in the room even though it wasn't that cold. The beds were a bit hard but did't stop us from sleeping!! The staff are very nice, not intrusive, and the receptionists speak excellent english

We only ate in the hotel once for breakfast and dinner and the food was very good, but we do like to try restaurants in the resort. Definetly recommend Barollo just in front of the hotel and Porta Fina on the front. There is a very good Argentinian steakhouse two streets away and you really do get a good sized steak.

There are lots of bars on the front but we tended to go on the sidestreets as it was more peaceful ( The entertainment in the hotel is definetly geared to seniors)

All in all I would say that the hotel is worthy of four stars and we would definetly return here.

We chose the Florida Spa hotel based on the ratings shown on tripadvisor.co.uk and we were not disappointed. In summary a top quality hotel and the best I have ever stayed in to date.

Location:

Set about 20 meters away from the main promenade right opposite the harbor. This made it right in the middle of the resort, with quieter more family oriented area one way, and the more lively area the other.

We were dropped off on the promenade adjacent to the hotel, and it took about two minutes with our cases. So please don’t be put off by this.

Rooms:

Our room was on the side of the hotel that actually faced the sea, we were number 432 which was at the end of the hotel. So not only did we have a sea view, we could see the mountains to the side of the hotel.

The room had modern furniture, laminate flooring, a small desk and freestanding table and chairs. There was a large wardrobe with plenty of draws and lots of hanging space for clothes.

The bathroom was large, with a walk in shower, marble effect flooring and a unique sink unit made out of thick glass.

The balcony had a plastic table and two chairs, so we could have an early morning cup of tea in the sun.

More importantly, there was a free safe and fridge which meant we could keep our things safe and chill our own drinks. The air conditioning was excellent, although we set to low the first night and woke up freezing in the morning.

Towels were changed on request, and the linen was changed three times during the week.

Pool:

A relatively small pool considering the size of the hotel, but it was cleaned daily. There were plenty of sun beds and a nice bar to get drinks and a snack at lunch time.

There were people who reserved sun beds (English not Germans) with towels, but honestly there are plenty to go round.

Restaurant:

This was buffet style for breakfast and the evening meal. Plenty to choose from at both sittings, and there was the all important fry up in the morning.

I can imagine that if you were there for more than one week, the food may be a little repetitive. But provided you are prepared to try everything on offer, there really is not a problem.

Bars:

We used the main bar downstairs and the snack bar by the pool. Despite what some people have said the prices were OK. There was a happy hour by the pool from 12:00 to 13:00 and in the main bar from 18:00 to 19:00. But beware this is actually buy one get one free, so if you order two pints of lager, you will get four. All main bar drinks served with crisps and nuts!

Bar prices were around (all Euros): Pint – 3e, Bottle Lager – 2.8e, Soft Drink – 1.4e, Long Drink (vodka coke) – 5.10e.

Entertainment:

On most nights of the week, but mainly aimed at Spanish holidaymakers. The only thing that really lets the place down.

General Areas:

The reception, corridors, lifts etc etc were all very clean. Most of the downstairs area had sofa’s to relax on during the day or in the evening.

Staff:

All very friendly and polite, although I do feel ignorant for not learning any Spanish and expecting them to speak English, I must try harder next time.

Special mentions for Diago (main bar), Maria (restaurant) and the maid who cleaned our room – All EXCELLENT!

Cosmopolitan:

There were lots of different nationalities in the hotel, which made it different. But it would really have been boring if we had gone somewhere with all brits. In my opinion it was the other brits at the hotel who were the most noisiest.

So when you read “ok until the Spanish arrived” please don’t worry.

Non hotel observations:

First Choice:

We booked through them on-line, all good as we got 23kg of baggage allowance, pre bookable seating and in-flight meals.

My only comment was the rep was based at the nearby Hotel Angela, and only visited us three or four times a week for an hour. At least 45 mins of this was the welcome meeting, so don’t expect to see much of them.

We were picked up a little late in my opinion, which meant we checked in about 90 mins before departure, which did not give much time to relax in the airport.

The transfer was OK, but stopped at several locations and took well over an hour, if you can afford, book a private taxi transfer.

Beaches:

Absolutely packed out with holidaymakers, no room to move really, plus the sea had rubbish floating in it. Take my advice, stay by the pool!

Trips:

Don’t book with First Choice, as they are very expensive. We found an English speaking agent at the main bus station, I think they were called Flandriabus.

They charged 14e per person to go to Gibraltar, where as First Choice wanted 25e per person.

Bars:

Check out Hollywood’s cocktail bar, along the sea front in the lively area. Basically, left out of the hotel door, once you get to the promenade turn right.

They had reasonably priced cocktails in a nice environment. They were all freshly maid with real fruit ingredients.
