“Not a three star”

Hotel El Puerto Fuengirola

4/4 found this review helpful

The plus points (1) the location (2) the pool(3) the lifts worked well
The minus points (1) the room was very small (2) bird muck all over the walls of the balcony (3) no sun at anytime on the balcony (4) bed linen well worn (5) the food was cold and there was very little choice.
I would recommend the resort but not the hotel.

stayed for 9 nights had the most fantastic view of the coast. we were on the 16th floor, hotel could do with a little tlc the rooms are basic and a little old fashioned but extremely clean. room cleaned every day with clean towels also every day. pool is lovely and the views from it are wonderful. we were bed and breakfast there is plenty of choice for breakfast full english and all the other stuff you expect, not al a carte but certainly nothing wrong with it. the location is just perfect fish alley right behind which has wonderful restaurants. you are spoilt for choice. a visit to Rhonda is and absolute must if you dont do anything else you must do this.El puerto is not by far the fanciest hotel but i would go back without any hesitation.very nice staff too

“Blackpool with Euros”

Hotel El Puerto Fuengirola

My girlfriend and I wanted to go away for a week of relaxing. We usually head for a Greek island but as I'd been to Valencia in June and found it to be brilliant in all aspects we decided to book Fuengirola as it seemed the most reasonably priced for what was on offer. I spent a good few hours learning phrases before Valencia and got by very well so didn't want this new skill to go to waste just yet. Anyway, back to Fuengirola.

The hotel was very clean and towels were changed every day. We were Half Board and the hotel staff were very helpful in offering breakfast and lunch or breakfast and evening meal. This gave us greater flexibility and we were very pleased with them in all aspects of their service. The food was ok but I've had better at all of the 3 Star hotels I've stayed at before. There wasn't much variation throughout the week (every day seemed to be the same/very similar as the last) but there was a good selection to choose from to suit every taste. The hotel is right on the beach and situated by a relatively busy main road. We had a room at the back of the hotel when we arrived overlooking fish alley, not so good, there were a few pigeons sharing our balcony too. We requested a room change when we arrived to one with a sea view, though we had to wait 4 days - worth changing as its a great view at the front!
The beach was clean and sunbeds were between 4 or 5 Euros each.
The resort was a let down. We seemed to be charged a fortune in most places we ate - this contradicts what some of my friends told me about the resort and they were there recently. We paid 15 Euros (£10) for a starter in a Chinese restaurant in the busy restaurant sector and it was of the worst quality I've ever eaten, the main wasn't far off either (I could understand if it was cheaper), whinge, moan. The Britannia Bar served good lager (not difficult, I used to be a bar manager) but the wine tasted sulphuric.
Everywhere you go there is someone trying to sell you bags, glasses, etc. This is every 3 minutes or so if not more often. Not what I go on holiday for but I can understand these guys need to make a living. There was a guy playing his Piccolo accompanied by a CD player about 20 metres from where we were sat, after his 4 minutes of playing he unsuccessfully went to get money from every table. I was in the middle of a main course and he asked me for some money. I said 'No thank you' and he started moaning and saying that I must have some change in some of my pockets and that he was shocked that I wasnt going to pay him. I wanted to shove my fork in his eye but that would have ruined my girlfriends evening and therefore mine.

An English bloke stopped us on our first day giving us each a free scratch card each and lucky me won a star prize. It was going to be a Camcorder or 750 Euros or a Dream Holiday. Then an English lady came up to us as we were being told that we were the luckiest people alive and she thanked the English bloke for her top of the range camcorder she won yesterday and as she was going home that day she wanted to thank him. Needless to say I didnt go to their demo to collect my super prize and probably sign my house over for them to keep and pimp my girlfriend from. We saw the English folk repeat this trick every day on unsuspecting tourists, the rotten witch was in cahoots with the Englishman all along. Again the thought of the fork in the nasty mans eye sprung to mind but holiday, girlfriend, unhappiness, etc.

I also saw some English homeless people. One was ranting at an English couple who were minding their own business - because they wouldnt get into a conversation with him (and he looked smacked up), he began shouting at them. I wanted to stamp on his head during his sleep but this is a holiday and should't be like this. I dislike English chavs but can bear them. Don't think me a Victor Meldrew, I spent August bank holiday camping in Skegness with some mates and we had a great time.
I heard some Spanish and English fighting at 4am Sunday morning, other than that it was quite quiet. There was rubbish and glass being kicked all over the place during this frenzy from the bins that had been put out that evening. The police arrived and soon after so did a clean up team. They cleaned up very efficiently and next day it was 'spotless' again.

I wouldn't go again and am surprised that the people we met all seemed to have been several times before. A day trip to Marbella wasn't anything special either!

My partner and I have just returned from an 8 night break at the El Puerto Hotel. We cannot really fault the hotel; it is fairly basic (as the majority in Fuengirola seem to be) however it was spotlessly clean, with the rooms cleaned daily and we had fresh towels left each day too. On our first night we had a room facing the back of the hotel. The back of the hotel doesn't have much of a view and overlooks Fish Alley, which is an area with a cluster of restaurants. We thought we would ask the staff at the hotel the next morning if we could change rooms to a room with a sea view. To our surprise they were very accommodating and we moved the following night. What a difference this made. We had a fantastic view of the beach and the marina. We were staying on a b&b board. The breakfast is excellent, and is served from 6.30am-10.30am so plenty of time if you fancy a lie in! There is plenty of choice too from traditional fried food to continental, yougurts, cereal, meats, you name it. The only slight fault I can find, which is of no fault to the hotel is at night time it can get quite nosiy. This is due to the excellent location of the hotel and the fact the people don't seem to go out until well after 10pm, therefore it is not exactly early when they retire for the night! The staff are very friendly at the hotel and during our stay there tended to be a lot of Spanish who are extremely friendly and we found they particularly like it if you make an effort with the lingo, which we did! I would definately stay at the hotel again and would recommend this to any couple of families.

“Excellento Hotel”

Just returned from a 7nite stay there, the hotel was well situated near the harbour and easily found from a distance as its the tallest twin towers in Fungirola. The taxi from the airport was 35 Euros The Beach is opposite with both public and private facilities available. i.e sunbeds and shades

We stayed bed and breakfast and the breakfast was buffet style with every food need catered for. from the usual eggs and bacon and healthier options. Breakfast is served from 7.30 to 10.30 so its great if you want a lay-in,The buffet is topped up regularly so theres always plenty.

The rooms comfortably sleep 2 but 3 at a squeeze. we also had a sea-view and the towels and room were cleaned every day no complaints there The whole complex consists of 2 circular towers with a large swimming pool perched on the shorter one, check out the amazing views from there

The lifts are adequate for a hotel built in 1974 we did not have to wait to long only when a coach arrived when there was huge demand on the lifts

There is a happy hour in the bar which we made use of {two for the price of one} margaritas yum-yum.

Just around the corner literally 2 minutes walk is the largest selection of restaurants Ihave ever seen, you name a type of cuisine and its there. BRILLIANT

the one down side to these restaurants are the street sellers that can become quite a pest.I don't know why the spanish allow it
Anyway the resort is great, the weather was good and check out the zoo, its the best one I have been to, and I have seen a few
already booking this hotel for next Year
