After reading everyone else's reviews AFTER booking the hotel, I was a bit afraid it would be very noisy and not very relaxing! Overall, I was pleasantly surprised.
The food is very bland really, the breakfast "hot meal" is typically English, but they haven't quite got the hang of bacon! Be very careful with any meal with Chicken, including the paella, it had little bones left in it, not good!
Lunch and evening meals very similar, quite varied choice, but after a few days, you notice that the choices are only variations on a theme; soup/fish/meat/pasta/salad.
I guess i was lucky in that my room was on floor 3 and at the end of the corridor, therefore no through traffic and my neighbour next door was as quiet as I was, thefore no problems there; the aircon worked fine, the room was clean and comfortable, nice not to get the sun on the balcony until the afternoon, after the siesta!
The morning ritual for the sunbeds is still there, its a good idea that no-one can get up at the crack of dawn to put their towel on a bed, but the scrum for the beds at 10am is pretty special!
If you don't have a car, make time for the bus to Mijas, its a wonderful view. Catch the bus outside the hotel to the central bus station, then bus up the hill to Mijas.
The train stop is right outside the hotel main entrance ( turn right, about 100 metres), so if you book the hotel independent, the trip from the airport at Malaga is easy! Remember to book an end of corridor room if you can.
If you want to go to Gibraltar, cheaper to book the trip from the central bus station, or from the travel shop on the beachfront, only a little more. Make sure you book early, its pretty popular!
Watch out for the apes, they steal anything! Its not an easy trip in and out of Gib, lots of tourists, so very crowded!
Back in the resort, for some reason the beach restaurants are relatively expensive for fish dinners, but there's plenty to choose from. In the town centre area there a couple of nice restaurants, near the Marina?
Don't be afraid of the "hawkers" on the beachfront, they're a fact of life here, but quite friendly and speak English pretty well, no need to be rude and you might get a relative bargain if you're that way inclined! Haggle as if your life depended on it though, but buyers beware, enough said!
With regard to "duty free", I found it cheaper to use the official shops in Fuengirola rather than the airport, but only a couple of quid in it? up to you?
Overall, it was not a bad experience, I thought it was a bit built up, but wait until you see Benalmadena, it was much more "high rise".
The Los Boliches resort beaches were very clean, plenty of room to spread yourself out, but you do need a sunshade, it was pretty hot in direct sun! Currently, 2 beach sunbeds and parasol are €8, all day.
Do visit the Tuesday Market, its enormous, put your walking shoes on, if you wear flip-flops, your toes will be stamped on!
Hope this helps, take the best bits, leave the rest, it's not bad!
