In November 2006 we twice dined in this beautiful hotel although we were staying elsewhere at the time and immediatly decided to return for a seven night stay as soon as possible, having done so we have been most impressed by the staff, location and facilities.

Our en-suite bedroom was excellently appointed and most comfortable and had great views over rolling countryside to the distant Med.

The dining room is beautifully laid out and the food from the varied menu choice is out of this world.

With two swimming pools (one internal), a gym, tennis court also horse riding available you are never short of facilities within the complex, however some time should be spent visiting El Chorro and also Torcal with its fantastic rock formations.

The well signed road up from La Joya was a dirt track last year but has since been well coated with tar.

Our thanks to Luis and all the staff for their care and attention during our stay, we will return for seven nights in 2008.

Fuente del Sol is a lovely rural hotel nestling in mountains North of Malaga. The location is quite remote so you need a car to get there, but it is certainly worth the trip. The hotel feels like a modern reproduction of an old Spanish building and our room was beautiful with sloping exposed beams and a distant view of mountains. There is a spa, tennis court, mountain bikes and a lovely mid-priced restaurant. The staff were all very helpful and friendly and made us feel very welcome indeed. I would definitely stay here again in preference to the nearby Costa del Sol, and use it as a base for visiting the cities of Andalusia.

La FUENTA del SOL an amazing hotel
We have just returned refreshed from our visit to this special place and would really like to share our experience with you and recommend the hotel and the area wholeheartedly.
We were directed to this lovely hotel by friends who had travelled extensively in Andalusia over the past 7 years and in their experience they had not visited a better appointed inland 4 star hotel that had all the elements and more to make for a luxury holiday on a reasonable budget. Our friends had shown us the hotel web site and we where immediately impressed by the beautiful pictures and scenery in this part of the Sierra del Torcal National Park. These web pictures we now know are very authentic and true to life especially the rolling hillside scenery and all the features of the hotel facilities.
We were looking for a small hotel in the rural countryside between Granada and Seville with easy access to the highway system and Malaga on the coast. We wished to visit the old town of Malaga together with several museums including the Picasso Museum as well as visiting the cities of Granada and Cordoba. We also wished to visit some wine and olive cooperatives along the way with fresh lively tapas bars to give us a real Spanish experience and of course lots of sunshine, personal service and relaxation.
La Fuente fit’s the bill and was the perfect base-- this amazing hotel nestled in the hills at approx 850m above sea level, sits above the small village of La Joya and is a very easy, well signposted 20 minute drive through stunning scenery from the ancient town of Antiquera on the A343.
On arrival at the hotel we were thrilled to see a flock of eagles soaring on thermal air currents overhead, the hotel’s aspect is due south with a view over the rolling rural farmland and hills down to the Mediterranean sea in the distance at Malaga..
A warm welcome awaited us from Ester and Estelle on reception and Luis the general manager showed us to our beautiful appointed room which had a very comfortable palatial bed, sumptuous linen and bath robes with 5 star touches and great views. My husband used the well equipped gym and we both relaxed in the spa facilities and plunged into the sparkling heated indoor pool ( the 22m length outdoor pool was a little chilly for November) this was just the tonic after a days sightseeing trip before a superb dinner in the elegant restaurant. The chef David Munzo, originally from Madrid gave us an excellent choice of menu with some inventive Spanish/Mediterranean dishes, his staff, especially Jose the head waiter, were very efficient and attentive.
We took a walk from the hotel at dusk several evenings to take in the clear mountain air before dinner and were very lucky to see some stunning sunsets. Our last evening we caught site of a huge skein of geese on the distant skyline with hundreds of birds at approx 10,000 ft on there way to North Africa for the winter, truly amazing.
There is a very good feeling in the hotel and it has an elegance of an authentic Spanish Corteja with inner courtyard, spacious height in all the rooms, lifts to all floors and lush plants throughout the hotel to delight the eye.
We shall certainly return to this amazingly delightful hotel next year.

We found the Fuente del Sol by accident while touring Andalucia. Unfortunately having followed the signs which directed us higher and higher up a narrow access road we found ourselves in a quite remote location. We had to eat in the hotel dining room as we were to worried about finding our way back up the track in the dark. There were only 2 other guests guests at the hotel and there was very little atmosphere the waitress seemed very disinterested and just left the wine bottle on the table un- opened, when she did open it we were not invited to try the wine. The food was not bad but there was not much choice on the menu and we would have been stuck for something to eat if we had stayed more than the 2 nights. Our room was large an well furnished but again seemed to lack character. We heard from the other guests that there was another good hotel close by but it had been full when they tried to book. Fuente del Sol is ok wouldnt recommend the hotel for a touring base.

Having been disappointed by the unfulfilled claims of other nearby hotels it was refreshing to find in October 2006 this beautiful rural hotel which surpassed all expectations.
If like us you are seeking a quiet peaceful retreat offering a wonderful welcome, great food and magnificent rooms this hotel cannot be beaten.
Thank you Luis and your fantastic team, we will be with you again in June 2007.
