“Treat at Torcal!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2012

We were a little sceptical about visiting here with our teenagers, but even they were spell bound by thefantastic fanatsy like scenery that appeared before our eyes! We were staying only 10 minuted away so had to take a peek..so glad we did..The rock formations were amazing!! The rocks were under water and were shaped by various chemical and aquatic forces to reveal an almost surreal landscape that appears to be from another planet!! If that doesn't impress you the drive up to the visitors centre provides an excellent view and photgraphy opportunities! We took loads of piccys of the famous torcallini and went into the visitors centre which provided welcome relief from the heat of the day and contains an inrteractive display and information! There is a gift shop and restaurant..picnic tables outside and cold drinks etc! This place is not to be missed..you do not have to walk miles to see the views..we drove up to the mirador and parked in a lay-by and then went back to the car park as it was getting hot! the walks are all signposted and you need good footwear..not flip-flops!!There is lots of dead prickly plants on the footpaths,so not sandals either!! ouch!!

“Stunning views within an amazing landscape.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2012 via mobile

Visited here in July 2012. Arrived after 4pm so maybe that's why it was so quiet? Quiet was very welcome. 5/6 km drive out of Villanueva (follow signs for El Torcal) turn off & drive up to the visitor centre. Watch for the views on this drive (look behind you!). Amazing. As we arrived so late we only walked the green route (1.5km) but that was enough, especially in the July heat. It's not a stroll by any means & you'll need good footwear & be ready for some tricky paths. We took about an hour but then we did stop lots of times to take photos. Some fantastic sights. Our path was crossed by wild goats at one point & we also encountered a wild fox in the car park. Most of the plants had finished flowering so not very colourful, but I imagine if you go when the thistles are in flower it would be even more beautiful. There's a very good visitor centre with an exhibition, shop, toilets & cafe (try the chocolate brownies - to die for!).
All of this for no entry fee, no car parking fee & no crowds. If you're in the area & appreciate majestic landscapes & beauty I'd definitely recommend.

“Bizarre rock formations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2012

The Paraje Natural Torcal de Antequera is a magnificient place high up in the mountains to see bizarre and uncommon rock formations. The food served on the premises was very good.

“Wow - great views and rock formations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2012

Apart from the peace and quiet after town, the views were superb and the rock formations just as good as any review or leaflet you might see. We found that the trails were actually shorter than the info centre suggested ie the 2hr one only took 1.5hrs even in hot summer sun. Go prepared with decent shoes - flip flops would not quite cut it with some of the paths!
Info centre is large, nice staff, and quite good fun explanations for kids. Also has a cafe... very welcome at end of the walk! If you're not so able-bodied, there's a short flat path which takes you past some interesting formations and to great views towards the coast.
The picture of the 'stacked' rocks (that's in all the marketing material) is not long before the info centre on the LHS as you're driving up. Parking for 2 cars only.
