“Great food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

Towards the end of our trip, we decided to eat here. It didn't look like much from the outside, but we saw some locals sitting at a table and that the parking lot was nearly completely full, so we gave it a go. We are very glad we did. While the inside was not much to look at, and the staff was a bit to get used to, the food was absolutely incredible. One of our best meals. My friend ordered the fish and chips, which was hands down the best ever (perhaps even better than what I had in Norway). The cod was so moist and flavorful I almost wished I had ordered that. I on the other hand ordered the secreto iberico, which was again incredibly tasty and cooked properly. The fries were also incredibly well done. I had been told earlier in the trip by another traveler that I needed to try the Spanish fries as it seemed to be a local specialty that they pride themselves on. I have to agree. The few fries I had on the trip were all way better than any American fry I had ever tried. This restaurant was no exception. They were cut a bit smaller than steak fries, but thicker than the fast food variety with a little salt. I definitely suggest giving this place a go. I know if we had known about it earlier, we would have come more than the one time we did.

“miserable and rude staff and decidedly poor food”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2012 via mobile

I note that other reviews are quite old - this place has possibly changed hands. The Spanish reviews that are recent reflect my own view - i.e. the waitress was rude and the food was poor and expensive.
There are loads of better places than this...move on and find one !

“Great value spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2011

You do need to rise above the lime green plastic chairs on the terrace and ignore the smallish pylon in the garden, but the views are, as others have said, fabulous. The Patron does not speak English but is wonderfully friendly, and as others have said the food is great value. The house red at EU10 is a bargain (a Tempranillo based Rioja).
We had the day's special which was a whole roast foreleg of lamb - hearty and excellent. I suspect you'll do best with the plain and simple dishes here.
At the time of writing the map location in Trip Advisor is wrong. The restaurant is on the A343 about half a mile out of town, on the left. You can't miss the big sign on an outbuilding.
We arrived at 8:30pm on a Saturday and they were still washing the terrace. By 10:30 the locals were starting to show up...

“Simple, tasty food with a great view.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2010

We saw this restaurant from afar situated above the town of Antequera. We guessed it would have a fantastic view and so decided to eat there regardless of price and menu. What a lucky choice. Yes the view from the terrace of the town and castle was fantastic but so was everything else.

The menu was not huge but we decided on steaks having become a little tired of tapas. They were perfectly grilled with that special smoky grilled taste and very juicy and came served with fresh vegetables and hand cut chips. We had a very good and reasonably priced house wine and indulged in a three chocolate desert between the two of us - that was a real mistake we should have ordered two - delicious.

Our waitress didn't speak English but the menu was in English and with our rudimentary Spanish and great good humour we had no trouble being understood. Despite the simplicity of the food this stands out as the best meal in 28 days of eating out in Andalucia. Everything had a great taste and was unfussy and together with friendly service and a magnificent view made a memorable night out

“Excellent and un-pretentious eaterie”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2010

Not open Mondays! - but otherwise pretty perfect - THis restaurant offers a very wide range of typically Andalucia dishes in season.

The 'Fritura Malaguena' is a fried fish lovers delight at aound 8 euros (think of sharing one as a starter but ONLY if you are really hungry!)

The Pork Knuckle is a meat eaters dream at around 10 euros

Order a bottle of El Coto Rioja and enjoy! - don't forget the 'cafe solo dobles' to finish.
