“Let sleeping dogs.....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2012

Arrived late evening in a massive electrical storm and had to ring the bell for the creaking door to be opened by an elderly gent - welcome to Transylvania!! No vampires fortunately but several dogs in an adjacent property which barked most of the night. The hotel staff admitted it was a problem and they had complained often about it but the neighbours had the dogs out to scare off the bears!

We were able to move rooms which largely solved the problem but ask for a room on the right hand side (by the driveway) if you want some sleep.

The staff were very helpful and the breakfast was interesting; served in a tiny room next to reception. No bar and creaky staircase were two downsides. Town is best accessed via the steps opposite the hotel but the trip out is easier than the return (116 steps up!).

Great walking on the top of the mountain but no real maps so beware as the best available (from the Tourist Info in town) were not to scale! The routes are well marked by sign posts and two trails off the seemingly sheer rock face were difficult but no too hard for experienced walkers. Coming down by cable car can involve long waits.

Room Tip: Definitely right hand side.

Located on a quiet road some short distance from the centre of Sinaia. This hotel offers old world charm with limited amenities. I think you would go stir crazyon a rainy day. However, as a base from which to explore the area it was ideal. It's a bit of a treck uphill from the train station! I Only spent one day in Sinaia and it was a Monday; the day everything closes for 'maintenance'! However I was able to walk up to the two palaces and see them from the outside. I took the service cable car upto the first stop and walked back down through the forest which was a pleasant hike.

It looks like it has been renovated recently. Bathroom is sparkling new. Beds are comfortable. Location is convenient central. Breakfast could be improved adding some fruits and yogurt. Problems with Credit Card payment (Visa with Transilvanian Bank).

The story of Allegra the owner in this historic homestead adds to the atmosphere in a wonderful green part oft he world not yet overrun with brash tourists.

The architecture is superb at more than a hundred years old and the delightful lounges are complemented by the beautiful red camelias outside in the lovely garden.

Looking forward tro bringing my partner back here - prices are very reasonable too which helped the overall feeling of total contentment.

A must is seeing the nearby historic Pelel castle and church which Allegra's staff can help you with.

The town of Sinaia was named by a Romanian prince who built it from scratch after being mesmerised by the holy location of Sinai in the middle east. What a wonderful and charming place.

We stayed at this hotel our last night in Romania back from the Carpates on the road to Bucharest airport. This place is a boutique hotel with the charming of an old building and the advantage of a small hotel. It's located in a quiet street far from the main road but with easy access to the city center, with in house parking. We like it very much

Room Tip: better to choose a first floor room they are bigger

This hotel was ok...it certainly has location in its favor being close to Monastery and Peles Castle. Room was decent size. I agree with others who say it is outdated, by several decades. I did not find it as charming as others have said (moreso drab) which was the biggest disappointment.

Really unusual hotel and deceptively large: feels a bit like you could wander around its corridors for hours and still not see everything! The grand, creaky staircase from the main lounge is awesome!

The guest rooms could certainly use an update: the one we were in seemed to have last been decorated before either of us was born. Nice breakfasts though, and at the price it was very good value and the perfect base for exploring the area.
