“Wonderful stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2013

There's not much more I can add that hasn't already been said by the other reviewers.
Location - idyllic
Rooms - huge, elegant and comfortable (The bath in the en-suite was especially welcome!)
Food - to die for!! Personally, found it en par with a Michelin Star restaurant!
Service - second to none. Liam and Aine are warm, friendly, incredibly knowledgeable about the local area, and excellent conversationalists, who were only too happy to please us
Price - higher than we were used to for a weekend break, but oh so worth it for what we received!

HIGHLY recommend, and will certainly return!

We came to Clone House in July to start our honeymoon. Of all the places we visited subsequently, including a grand hotel in Sciliy, Clone House topped the scale. It's meticulous in every detail, from start to finish.

Irish hospitality at its very best. Come and stay, and you wouldn't regret it.

We could not have chosen a better place to start our Ireland trip. The house is beautiful, the host an incredibly warm and knowledgeable person ready to share his love for his country, home and food.
Food was amazing both dinner and breakfast and our rooms were cozy, pretty and very comfortable.
Wanted to stay and hope to come back!!

This two night weekend stay at a Hidden Ireland property was a first for us. The structure is somewhat different from an hotel - Clone House is run by live-in owners Liam and Aine. Accommodation-wise it is also very different, with only four rooms in what is essentially a very large and elegantly appointed private home.
Although only an hour from the city of Dublin, the pace of life here for pampered guests is leisurely and relaxed. The food was excellent (prepared by a hard-working Aine) and served with aplomb in a Dining Room where guests share a very large table. This provides an opportunity for conversation over breakfast and dinner with guests from both Ireland and abroad - this might not suit everybody, but during our stay presented no difficulty to those gathered there. Liam too is a great conversationalist with an easy manner who never neglects his guests - is a very gracious host.
Breakfast was delicious, with lots of choice - Full Irish, soda bread, kippers, duck eggs, scones, juices, flapjacks, porridge and granola with fresh yogurt. Aine, well done!
Dinner is a set menu, using local produce and showing great flair and imagination.
There is a small library for the use of guests, as well as the large Drawing Room where pre-dinner drinks are served by the host.
The local attractions have been covered extensively in other reviews, there is always plenty to do in Wicklow. However, I would recommend Clone House as a place to relax and recharge your batteries, experience great food in a beautiful setting, sleep peacefully in well-appointed bedrooms, and let the tranquility of deepest Wicklow wash over you.

A last minute idea took us to this house just over an hour from Dublin South.
Our expectations were high considering the reviews to date.

Well, we were in for a surprise, a truly amazing and magical one at that.
The house, Aine and Liam, the setting, the food, the rooms, and the comfort are all amazing. We have stayed in a lot of five star hotels but none come close to this one with its genuine attention to detail and taking care of its guests.

We left there on Sunday feeling like we had stayed with family and friends of old.
We shall return to you guys soon -

Well done Aine and Liam - You have set such a high standards that many follow, few will achieve.

Staying at Clone House was a highlight of our trip to Ireland.
We loved the charming elegance of the historic home, the pretty landscaped gardens, the gracious warm welcome we received from Liam and Aine, the impeccable lodgings. Every corner of the house holds another treasure, another story. The setting is beautiful and tranquil. Our experience at Clone House was magical.

We travelled through the natural beauty of the Wicklow countryside to reach our destination a short distance from Aughrim
Our expectations were mixed when we went into the narrow entrance and proceeded past a field of young bulls with a sign stating the obvious 'Beware of the Bull' and very quickly the house appeared before us and though part of it was constructed in 1770 it is well maintained
It's interior is bare of the nicknacks one expects in a a country house and the owners have created an understated elegance by the collection of art which has been chosen by it's relevance to them and the region , the well polished furniture of 19th and 20th Century origin, and the choice of colours on the walls.
As we were shown to our bedroom by our host we were reminded it was a home by the family photographs along the stairway and we were comforted on glimpsing an aga through the open door of the kitchen
Our bedroom was spacious and had all one would require for our two day stay, the bed was large and comfortable and in a short time we returned to the Drawing Room for a cup of tea and to learn more about the house which we had chosen from the Hidden Ireland Group of Accomodations
The house is sans TV and sans radio and if one is determined to access a news outlet wifi is available but we advise the visitor to desist because this house will work it's magic on your senses and you will learn to listen to yourself and others in the calm and serene atmosphere which is Clone House
In the evening we had a glass of sherry in the Drawing Room and thereafter enjoyed a tasty meal which was well presented and all sourced locally
We were privileged to be the only guests dining that evening because we sat opposite to each other in the centre of a 12 seater dining table with lit candles strategically located around the room, it was like a set from a TV Drama and the candelabra which was lit and placed in front of a large Georgian mirror above the fireplace had melted wax seemed to be well managed so that we almost expected a well known movie actor to enter the room, instead our host who had exchanged his duds worn earlier for a linen shirt and trousers entered to offer us our first course of fresh crab and advocado. Our Host Liam can converse on a wide range of topics and did so until midnight and when we retired we slept like the innocent lulled by the creaks of the house.
Clone House has an excellent location to explore this beautiful area,to learn it's history and understand the culture and in the time we were there we visited Avondale Estate and the CS Parnell to renew our knowledge of the Statesman whose fall from power changed the course of Irish History, we went to the Meeting of the Waters and marvelled at the splendour of the Vale of Avoca,we visited Avocaweavers and learned about the history of weaving in the area and we travelled through Woodenbridge ,Tinakely and Aughrim.
We made friends with our host and hostess Liam and Aine who is a wonderful cook and produces good wholesome and healthy food which can only be provided in this way
We lead busy lives and at first were reluctant to be absorbed by Clone House and it's apparent simplicity we learned there is nothing simple about it at all rather it is a lifestyle which allowed us to recharge our senses and to be more appreciative of the natural beauty here in Ireland and we were reluctant to leave it's comforts and calm serene way of life this afternoon
We will return to this oasis to be looked after by two intelligent and interesting people and to the readers of this assessment we recommend without reservation
