Stayed in the Greville arms on 18th November with a group of 9.
The foyer looks new & then the bar had a lot of wood & was very dark in places, had an upstairs too. There was band playing that night, they were good, & then a diso afterwards which was average - all age groups there. One of the barman in function room was useless & found it hard to take an order for 3 drinks never mind 9. He didn't know how to serve up drinks or even where to find them!! Apparently this is the best place in centre of town??
Had a meal, average fayre, steaks etc. Set menu or a la carte. Good price, bill €306 for 9 with 3 bottle wine & a few shorts. The service was ok to.
Major grudge, our room. 21 I think. Opened door & the smell was rotten, fusty but you got used to it! 1970's avocodo bathroom suite, not the best, but very clean & big mirror for us 2 ladies to do our make-up. The room was very small & opened onto their beer garden, would be awful in summer, noisy & windows only opening a crack.
We arrived in room around 5pm & it was freezing. I rang reception & was told heating was on timer & came on at 6pm. I mean please, in this day & age, that's so archaic & totally unacceptable - but she could do nothing. It didn't come on at 6pm & we went down at 6.20 for drinks. Actually it never came on at all, not that night or in morning. Got to bed so late was past caring. The room was the dingiest, darkest, smelliest, coldest room I have ever stayed in.
We asked our 'organiser' how much it was, when she told us €140 for room I nearly choked.
Now the hotel is old & you can see it is has been done up & patched up bit by bit - but that room, get your act together please Greville arms& do it up - that was a total rip off.
We did not complain as one person had arranged all this so we didn't want to hurt her feelings - but all I can say is never again!!
