“"Among our fondest memories of Ireland"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2013

Aideen welcomed us with a sitting room fire and next morning, learning it was our anniversary, brought us a vase filled with bright magenta snapdragons. The home itself -- lived in by a single family for generations -- the lovely lake glistening nearby, the donkeys (Sonny and Cher!) for whom she provided us with bread, our room, complete with four-poster, large, clean and quiet, the gluten-free bread and organic breakfast she offered -- except for its brevity, our single night stay was perfect. Because Aideen suggested that we might enjoy the Corlea Interpretive Center, unsure what the big deal there might be, off we went. At the nearly deserted Center we spent 3 unexpected, intriguing hours with a guide amazingly knowledgeable re this 148 BC, 4 meter wide, 2 km long oak bog road, Europe's most sophisticated, its purpose unknown. Without Aideen's quick perception re our interests we would have entirely missed this gem.

This has to be the best B&B we have stayed in a very very long time from beginning to end. The lady (owner) was a marvellous inspiration to her job. It was truly home away from home. She greeted us with hospitality, offering us tea immediately and sharing her recommendations for a night cap on the night we stayed. It is set in lovely gardens and our room overlooked a lovely tennis court and the lake not far away.

The room,Lough Owel suite we got was fabulous, the most comfortable bed I ever slept in. Bed linen so fresh and crisp and bathroom was immaculate, with all fabulous necessities provided.

The breakfast excelled all! Fantasic fresh fruit, freshly squeezed orange juice, cereals of a choice and a hearty Irish breakfast. And wait for it ,3 different home made breads, scones and homemade jam. I can only say I completely pigged out and sampled all and even devoured all the scones, yum!yum! I advised Aideen that she should sell the scones. She so kindly gave us a pot of gooseberry and plum jam on departure and we have to say it was scrumptious.

I cannot recommend this place highly enough for all its qualities. The setting and location been so perfect.

We can only say we will be back and if you are looking for a place in Ireland to stay then look no further than Lough Owel Lodge.

Many thanks Aideen!

From the welcome to the parting the friendliness was outstanding. The landlady was excellent. Lots of home cooking, from the welcome scones and jam to breakfast with freshly made pancakes and/or bread. Her advice on the area was also very helpful. Rooms were as good as a 3 star hotel. Decor in parts was a little dated but rooms were clean and shower was very good with conditioner, shampoo and shower gel all available at the touch of a button. Not far from town and an excellent base for a short stay. Highly recommended.

We stayed at this beautiful B&B for one night and wished we could have spent more time here. The double rooms my teenage daughters, wife, and I stayed in were beautiful, spacious, and clean. We shared a large bathroom that was also very well maintained. Aideen was a gracious host who greeted us with hot tea and scones after we arrived during a heavy downpour. Looking out our window at the sheep grazing in the pasture and the views of the lake were quite a thrill. Breakfast was excellent-the girls loved the fresh pancakes. We look forward to returning again for a longer stay and having a picnic down at the lake.

Traveling from Australia via North Wales we had enjoyed a wonderful week in Ireland and this was our last night before returning to Wales. We arrived and were greeted with afternoon tea. Our hosts were interested in our trip and our experiences in our own B & B . Our room was as good as any we had stayed in on our trip but the lounge and dining rooms were exceptional. Breakfast was superb as we had come to expect in Ireland. Thank you Aideen and Martin for rounding off our trip with a great stay at Lough Lodge

Aideen and her husband Martin were amazingly helpful to my sister and myself in trying to find our mothers family history, with the help of Aideen and her friend Helen we were able to find our grandparents details which will enable us to do more research into our family history, we hope to come back next year with other family members to continue the search.Apart from all this the hospitality was wonderful a genuinely friendly and comfortable atmosphere.

Room Tip: Chose any room here and a peaceful night is assured
