If you have to stay in Fayetteville, this is the place to stay! It is charming having been recently renovated. The room we had was large, nicely furnished and clean.
The location can not be beat. It's really the only option if you want to stay near the university or walk to the town which is just a few blocks away.
Re the restaurant in the hotel - we found the breakfasts average or poor quality (store bought bagels and other processed type of foods) BUT we had to eat lunch there one day and we were shocked at how good it was, very fresh and high quality, it was really superb, comparable to any high quality restaurant in a large city like SF. So good we had dinner there the same day, it was the best steak I have ever had, and the hamburger at lunch is also fabulous!
Our guess is that the hotel does the breakfasts and the real Ella's restaurant does the lunch and dinner - that is the only way we could explain the huge discrepancy between the poor quality of the breakfasts and the high quality of the lunch and dinners. Which is too bad because the breakfasts mislead the guests about what they really offer.
The other thing is that the front desk seems to be run mainly by students who don't really have the professionalism or grace needed to make this a higher end hotel. It's obviously a very popular place to stay and the front desk staff has a somewhat jaded attitude, they don't have the professionalism to know that even if their hotel is popular, it's still nice to treat your guests like they are important.
But all in all, it's a lovely place to stay, you'll notice that every time you walk in the door and see the gleaming hardwood floors and lovely staircase.
