What can I say. If you are interested in staying in a Castle that is hundreds of years old, this is the place for you. However, if you are interested in an accomodation that is hundreds of years old, you might want to rethink you decision. My wife and I stayed one night at Markree and was thankful we only stayed one day. The first impression was the lack of any greeting and the 52 step entry we lugged our bags up. The first room we were given was on the forth level, more bag lugging. When we finally found the room (not and easy task) we were greeted by water falling on the bed from the leaking ceiling. When we went back down the three levels to the desk and complained, we were reassigned to the "Johnny Cash" room. Apparently, Johnny stayed in that room at one time and I seriously doubt the draperies, linens and Upholstery have been changed since his stay, probably back in the 50's. As a Castle, Markree has charm and is interesting. As a hotel accomodation, I would rather stay somewhere else.
