“Warmest welcome & pet friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2014 via mobile

Stayed one night January 2014 and found hotel staff most welcoming. Food good. Ate dinner in bar and portions generous and quality of food quite satisfactory and reasonably priced. Breakfast well cooked and good choice.
Large bedroom with all the usual essentials.
The main plus is that they genuinely welcome pets. I had a very small dog who had a fantastic time there. Plenty of space both outside and inside (in front of fantastic open fire) to tire him out.
Would both recommend to others and stay again.

We got married at Markree Castle in December 2013, and couldn't have hoped for a more wonderful day. Everything about the whole day was fabulous, but particularly the staff. They were so helpful, so accommodating and literally did everything they could to ensure that our day went off without a hiccup. On top of that, we opted for a buffet, as neither my husband nor I are big fans of heavy sit down meals, it was literally the best food I have ever had at any wedding. Everybody got what they liked and as much as they wanted. The other really brilliant thing about having a wedding at Markree Castle is that the wedding party literally owns the hotel for the day. You undertake to book the entire castle, which has 30 guest rooms, for you and your guests. The chapel, where we had the ceremony, is beautiful, and it meant that we could have a really personal ceremony. I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

My fiancé and I just stayed at Markree Castle this last Monday Night. It was everything we thought it would be. Not a five star hotel, but a real castle with character and excellent customer service. Simon is terrific and all staff are equally as wonderful. Looking forward to going back again!

On our return trip to Ireland friends booked us a night here. WHAT A FAB PLACE. From the old wood work to the mostly original structure to the beautiful sitting areas... It was one of the best. The castle has a chapel and many of the stain glass windows are all still original. The grounds are beautiful. I just loved it. After staying in and visiting many castles i would say this is a MUST DO Castle ...You wont be sorry. Staff are friendly and accommodating. Just real pleasant stay all around. And a castle what more could you ask for.

Room Tip: I think all would be great.

Stayed for a weekend Dec 2013. Had a wedding at the castle on one night and second night stay in cottages. Location is perfect for a romantic getaway. The cottages/apartments while they are a short distance from the castle, this adds to the country romance setting. Hotel is a drive from Sligo town so transport is recommended. Lovely weekend away and I will be going back as soon as I can!!

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at Markree and we were so impressed. This castle is amazing! The real deal and so authentic. The manager Jeremy could not have been more helpful and so anxious to make our stay unforgettable. The food was superb. In fact everything about this hotel is 5 star. Really looking forward to returning.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 27, a lovely view and ideal for those bringing their dog with them on holidays.
