“Poet's Rest quality and value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2012

The Poet's Rest in Slane is a restaurant that should be visited if you are in the area visiting the Boyne Valley. My wife, daughter and i visited for a late lunch recently and had a very good experience. The waitress was cheerful and helpful and couldn't do enough for us. We ordered from the set menu. The starters were lovely and the main courses very well presented. My daughter had chicken curry which was flavoursome and plentiful! the steaks on a stone were very good especially if allowed rest for a while after cooking to our liking while the chips/chunky fries were golden and fluffy. Deserts and coffee were included in the price and the three of us had a lovely meal for a total of just over €50.

“Pleasant restaurant that could be amazing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2012

We chanced upon this little restaurant and didn't need a booking for lunch as there were not many diners at all. The recession appeared to be biting here as well. Decor is pleasant and they're definitely trying very hard to serve good food and present it very well (dishes came with flourishes of sauces dribbled artistically and interesting crockery options were used.) The service was also very friendly and attentive.

Not a huge amount on the menu for vegetarians, but two of us enjoyed the fish and I got the impression that if you asked for something off the menu and they had the ingredients ... they'd be only too happy to oblige.

Quaint stone outer could be further enhanced with some bright flower boxes/pots outside and a welcome board showing specials ... in order to attract driver's by who may not realise it's open for business.

Price-wise I felt it was good value. Overall the experience was a good one and I'd go back if in the area.

“terrible”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2012

food was cold and horrible. I had a poor and unenjoyable evening. We were at a christening there and they separated kids and adults which annoyed everybody.
