“Great food, atmosphere and staff.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2014

Had a lovely romantic meal here recently and the food and service are impeccable. The maitre 'd is very efficient, friendly, helpful and made our visit a memorable night so much so that we popped back in the following evening to sample this incredible cocktail menu in Magee's at the suggestion of the maitre 'd. she spotted us straight away and offered us a sample of one of the cocktails.
Well done, this is how is should be. very busy place but its easy to see why, they have it down to a tee.

“Saturday night dinner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2014

We like to eat out but not usually on a Saturday night as we are non drinkers and tend to avoid restaurants with bars attached! Tonight we ate in Magee's Bistro and were delighted. We booked for 6.30pm and left at 8.30pm. The place was packed and rather noisy but the service was super and the food was absolutely perfect. I thought we may have been rushed off our table but not so. Kay (don't know her position) took extra time to chat and make sure we felt welcome and we certainly will be back again. I have no problem recommending this bistro. Fish and chicken were our choices and all were yummy!

“Great meal”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2014

We'd a great meal. The food was well presented and very tasty. The sea food chowder was beautiful but piping hot and I had wondered if it had been microwaved. The mains and sauces were also excellent.
This is a large restaurant and it was full of large parties. It got very warm and yhere was no ventilation. The staff couldn't wait to clear our table and asked 3 times if we had finished even though our plates still had food on them and we had placed our cuterly in the universal crossed position indicating we were taking a break not finished.
My wife then felt faint and was sick suspecting the fish or a sauce she had with it. When I informed the staff a senior member of staff denied it could be the food as the owner was the chef. I think she was worried that we were looking a discount which we weren't we were just trying to be helpful.

“Disappointing end to a lovely meal”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2014

My boyfriend and I visit Carlingford regularly and have often gone to MaGees for some delicious cocktails. Last weekend we decided to have dinner there as we had heard great reviews. There was a good atmosphere in the restaurant and it was busy all night long. The food was very good and both my bf and myself really enjoyed the meal and a nice bottle of wine.
However, the mood changed as the bill arrived. It came to €81.50 and my bf paid in cash of a €50, €20, €10 and around €5 in change. When the waitress came back to the table she took the book containing the money and off she went only to arrive back a minute later to say we had left her short. We were shocked to see that the €10 note was gone as we knew exactly what money was put in the book. Also the €10 was under other notes and coins so it couldn't have just fallen out. The waitress was overly apologetic and we checked the floor while telling her it was definitely in there. Her response to this was "Well I didn't take it".
As neither of us wanted to make a scene by causing an argument we paid another €10. The money is not an issue it's the principal that it just vanished!!!
This incident really did ruin a great night and although the food was good we will not be returning to this restaurant.

“The service let the amazing food down.....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2014

The only fair way to write this review is to split it into "Service" & "Food". Firstly to the chef, hats off the food was amazing the goats cheese starter and fish platter were to die for... the presentation was great and the quantity was just right!
Now to the negative, the service was shocking .... the waitresses were too busy checking there phones than ensuring we had everything we required. We had to ask for each drink twice not to mention a jug of water which is a simple task. They never asked was everything ok, they only approached us to take away the plates... and to top it all off they never asked us Desert!!
They left dirty clothes on empty tables, which is UN-acceptable considering the restaurant was half empty.
If we could sit in the kitchen and have the food straight from the chef, we would definitely be back the food is amazing!
