“Portumna Bed and Breakfast.......Perfect !”

We had e mailed David back and forth a few times from our home island of Kauai. The communications were really very happy and he was teaching me Irish, and I was sending him Hawaiian phrases.

Pulling into the driveway at Portuman house, he greets us with a happy aloha, helps us with our duffel bags, shows us the room, which was wonderfully appointed and bright as well as comfortable. Lucky number 7 was our room with ensuite bathroom and shower. The room was spacious, very clean and homey. Just felt good !

Settled in and unpacked, David put out tea, coffee, and cakes in the downstairs dining area. The laughter, fun and story telling began....and never ended for the whole time that we were there.

David gave us directions into to town and a suggestion as where to have a nice lunch.
walking into town was short and easy, and we dined at Molinas. Wonderful cozy amibiance and excellent food and service. As well as later, stopping at " Strongs" pub, and met the fun local patrons there.

Later, David took us on a tour of Portumna, and showed how to get to the Castle and some of the trails to hike, plus the harbor where in a couple of days he would drive us to begin our skippering a motor vessel up the Shannon River.

Each morning, we were treated to fabulous hospitality and heartfelt good feelings, as well as a full Irish breakfast.

What a most rewarding and pleasant two days at Portuman House, and getting to meet and be friends with David and Uma.

The Portumna Bed and Breakfast, the entire experience, from our first meeting to the aloha hugs on our departure was a special treat and forever a fond, fond memory.

“Best b&b I've ever stayed at”

David and Una who own this b&b are extremely kind and hospitable. I stayed on my own and David was nice enough to carry my huge suitcases up 3 flights of stairs :) The room is very warm and comfortable. The sheets were clean and the bed was best part!! They even left me a bowl of cereal, milk, fruit, and sweets (because I couldn't afford the breakfast)! I definatley reccomend staying at this lovely b&b. I have stayed at most of the other b&bs and Shannon oaks in portumna and Portumna House is the BEST !!! Thank you again David and Una,
Mary Kelly

“Great accomodation”

We were attending a wedding in the Shannon Oaks hotel and stayed in this B&B for the night of the wedding. The owners are Una and David and were extremely friendly and welcoming and run a very professional B & B. This house is quite new and very clean and well appointed with all mod cons. It is only 3 minutes on foot from the town and the Hotel, but David even offered to drive us down, which was very kind and would have been much appreciated had it been a wet evening. The wedding went very well, unfortumately involving a very late night and a touch of a hangover, so although we were just a wee bit late down for breakfast we got a quick eggs on toast which helped put us back on track. We had planned to continue the Bank holiday weekend in Galway City but since it was so nice here we stayed another night, and the house was full both nights, yet we never heard any noise. Good parking space outside and you have your own front door and room key so you can come and go as you please. Breakfast was excellent with health drinks, juice, cereal and plenty of choice for the Full Irish. David is also a mad music fan and we had great chats about various American singers as diverse as -: Muddy Watters/ Seasick Steve/. /Howlin Wolf/ Leadbelly, our own Van and of course Bob Dylan, Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson. In fact, he said he would willingly keep Bob Dylan and Kristofferson both for free if they ever visited Portumna. So, since they are both touring in Ireland in the next while, heres your chance lads!! You can never be too rich or too famous to have a free B & B!! He kindly gave me one of his favourite Willie Nelson CD's when we were leaving ! I hope you enjoy the Dylan concert in Limerick next month David.. Anyway , we would recommend Portumna House for all the reasons above but my only advice would be to make sure you book in advance as they appear to always be busy, which is never a bad sign of any operation within the hospitality industry. We will be back in County Galway again soon and will make a point of staying in this B & B.

“Clean and comfortable”

Like other reviewers, we stayed here while attending a wedding at the Shannon Oaks (is this the only thing that brings people to portumna??). The house was very well located, easy to find. the host and hostess were friendly and welcoming. The room was clean and comfortable, and there were nice touches - like shower gel in the shower in case you forgot your own. Which I did!! The soap wasn't the usual cheap stuff either - small details but I liked them. The breakfast was good too. All in all, a very pleasant b&b.
