“Very nice hotel, but...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013 via mobile

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. This is a very nice hotel. They had a wedding on each night we stayed... Not fun because of the noise. Yes, people were talking loud and we had hide and seek near our room in the middle of the night. After talking to other guests at breakfast, well, we were not the only ones that had a short night sleep. The music was loud. That too was a problem between other guests. Maybe we were not lucky. The rooms were very clean. Dinners and breakfasts were good. Internet was bad. Yes, bad. You need to have 4 words to get Internet in your room. These 4 words are only good on ONE device! Why so complicated, why not just 4 words for the room?

We stayed for a Saturday night in November and considered it good value at EUR67 for two people. We had a pleasant stay and it met our expectations for a hotel of this standard.

Check-in was a bit robotic and left us with an initial poor perception but all other aspects of service met our expectation so I guess the person on reception was just having an off evening. The rooms are of good size and standard with the one quirky thing being that the kettle tray had to be moved across the room to be plugged in as there was no power socket by its storage unit to connect it to. We didn’t eat here though so I cant comment on the quality of the food.

My friend and I started in the Spa which was absolutely lovely. Roisin was so lovely to me and she was more than helpful in helping me decide the products to use for my skin type as I have eczema. Unfortunately for the hotel as soon as you come out of the Spa, it all just goes downhill from there. We walked in the room, to a dirty table, we ignored this, as we only had arrived. We started off waiting absolutely ages in the bar for food then were told we were suppose to be eating in the Marina Restaurant even though we were told at reception we were to eat at the bar which annoyed us because you assume when you pay for spa, dine and stay it's actually in a restaurant. We felt we were treated very different because we had the deal for spa, dine and stay. We went to the Marina Restaurant where they decided for awhile if they would allow us to actually have dinner even though we had asked at reception at least twice did we have to make a booking which we were told we did not. We sat down for starters which we waited for at least an hour, over half an hour for dinner and it was just as bad for dessert. You could see the restaurant was extremely under staffed as there was glasses covering the bar. In the morning we got over it and it started all over again at breakfast as soon as they saw we were on Spa, Dine and Stay, they told us there was no room in this area even though there was, we do have eyes you know .... we were told to eat in at the bar area it was absolutely freezing there so we went back and just sat down on an available table. We went to get our breakfast no glasses waited ages to finally get a glass. After finally sitting down we ate our breakfast and we never got asked for tea or coffee. I have stayed in alot of places and I usually never complain about much but this was the worst service ever and I had to say something.

Spent 3 nights end of July 2013. A/C not on all day. Shuts off during day and night. No draws in room for clothing. Furniture is worn. Hotel not being maintained. Impressive lobby but poor rooms. Hotel staff indifferent. Should be classified as a 3 star hotel.

Room Tip: Check a/c and toilet before unpacking.

I recently returned from 3 night break at Carlton Shearwater and it was well below the service and standard of a 4 star hotel. The staff were lovely and very friendly however our experience was of disorganised mayhem. Breakfast was chaotic, plates were dirty, service at dinner was very slow and there was confusion and miscommunication between staff on a number of occasions. I feel the hotel is short staffed and mismanaged.

We came back last friday from a 3 night stay. We had a lovely time away. The hotel staff were just exceptional (Particularly Siobhan in the Canal Bar). Nothing was a problem. At busy times in the bar it was a little low on staff and at breakfast time. Food was gorgeous, thought the choice on menu a bit limited in the bar). Breakfast was exactly what you would expect for a buffet breakfast. Our family suite was just perfect. Would highly recommend families of older children to go for these. The pool was spotless., probably one of the cleanest pools I was ever in in a hotel. The only negative we would have had about the hotel was seating etc in the breakfast room a little grubby and the Wifi was just too slow, for a conference hotel, i was surprised it was so slow.

I would recommend this hotel to any one. We will definatley come back and stay.
