The front desk staff here is top-notch. They are professional and exceeded my expectations in regards to this hotel; which has a reputation to be a lower-budget option. To be truthful, we ended up here after cancelling reservations with a rival more upscale chain and had few options that weren't booked. I did my due diligence and read previous reviews; which indicated a clean, no-frills hotel, close to Dublin airport.
It's great for being close to the airport, front desk is fantastic, and rooms were spotless. The beds were actually pretty comfortable. We were given a choice of pillow firmness; which was nice touch. The rooms were large and well appointed for a budget calibre hotel. Although two things I found unusual; 1. the portable heater and 2. the lighting. The temperature upon entering the room was not just turned down for energy efficiency, it was down-right cold. Ambient lighting in this place was great by the bed. There were two options-- the reading lamp for task lighting and the sconces for ambient lighting. What I had a problem with was the overhead lighting placed right in front of the entry door. Weird that it wasn't centered in the middle of the room, but not a big deal; just made the room seem overall too dark after daylight hours.
The breakfast buffet was worth the extra charge as it offered a large variety, was kept hot and clean. My favorite option was the serve yourself coffee/cappuccino/ espresso machine. It was AMAZING!! Also, the staff at the breakfast hour was very helpful and friendly. I would not recommend eating dinner here. There seemed to be a whole different attitude during the dinner time. We received okay service, but was definitely on the side of being unfriendly. I ordered a pizza; which came out cold and flavorless. Really... how hard is it to make a simple margarita pizza?! Totino's frozen pizza in the states tasted gourmet compared to the fare here. Tried to order dessert to get over the poor meal and was even more disappointed. The raspberry cheesecake was served warm and almost had the consistency of curdled milk formed into a pie mold. gross.
The next drawback would be that on a typical, Dublin weather day; it is not exactly as easy as it looks to head out to McDonald's or Friday's for a quick bite to eat. Without a car, I mean. We tried on several occasions to head out, and then get caught in the sudden wind/ rain combo. So, please be aware that if you are arriving by the shuttle, then take into consideration that you do not have many dining options nearby.
