We stayed in a twin room of this hotel for one night during our cruise through Ireland and it was the best hotel throughout our journey.
Check in was easy and efficient and we were given a good sized twin room with a double bed and a single bed. The room was spotlessly clean and had all necessary amenities plus a very big balcony that had to be shared with the inhabitants of other rooms. Even though this seemed a bit odd to me in the first place, the balcony turned out to be a big plus because it offered great views on the harbour and a fleet of pretty impressive fishing vessels.
In the evening we had dinner in the hotel's bar which we found quite nice. Even though the bar does not offer the typical charme of an Irish pub it is still a very modern and attractively layouted facility which again offers good views on the harbour. The food served in the bar is far above average, but nothing really special.
Breakfast was partly self-service, a bit complicated, because it wasn't really clear in how far guests were supposed to look after themselves but also satisfying.
Check out was as easy and efficient as check in with no problems whatsoever.
The only downside of the hotel was its Internet connection. For a price of 10 € per night we were given an Interent connection that broke down every five minutes. After complaining about this in the morning the amount was deducted from our bill, so the hotel dealt with this matter professionally and efficiently.
Killybegs itself made for an interesting stay on a rainy day even though it is only a pretty small town. Nevertheless, the harbour is one of Ireland's prime fishing ports with an interesting fleet of vessels. There are also a few probably more traditional pubs and restaurants around the hotel.

We are regular visitors to this hotel as my other half's family is from the area. This is an excellent hotel with fantastic staff, the best in the area. The rooms are lovely and clean but I would recommend the ones overlooking the harbour, it's absolutely gorgeous waking up to that view! Also, the top attraction is the comfort of the rooms we have stayed in, their beds are the most comfortable hotel beds we have ever stayed in!! We always get breakfast delivered
to our room as well so much so that the staff know not to ask anymore
and give us a call in the morning before they drop it up to make sure
we're awake! Breakfast in particular is always good, even when it's being delivered up to the room. The only thing I have to fault the hotel on (and it is the smallest fault)is the lack of variety on the evening restaurant menu and sometimes the quality is not that great. This is very surprising as every other aspect of the food in this hotel is great so I don't know why they fall down in their formal dining. This is a great hotel with really friendly, local staff. It's
a great place to stay.

Went on 2B&B & 1dinner deal- whan arrived upgraded to suite, free of charge!! Hotel room very very clean, a bit upset that we had no view of the bay we were overlookingthe road instead. The service was next to none, when we went to the resturantfor the dinner that evening the food looked to be 'too fancy' for our liking, we asked the manager if we could eat from the bar food menu, (which was excellent) there was no problem, The meal was beautiful
the staff at the desk were more than helpful to us. We wandered up the town and tested the local night-life, which is very quiet until aruond 1 am. There is 1 nightclub- the lighthouse which we had great craic. The buffet breakfast was also great- full coked irish and continental. Overall i thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Tara Hotel. Do not know if i would return to kilybegs for a 2 day break tho as it is a very quiet wee town and v limited activities.

I stayed for 2 nights which included breakfast each morning and one evening meal. The food in the Tara Hotel is exceptionally good regardless of whether you dine in their resturaunt or just have some bar food. My compliments to the chef. Killybegs is a small village but perfect for a couple of days away from it all!
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Compliments all round

Booked the Tara after reading the Tripadvisor reviews and very happy with the outcome. Had lovely room overlooking the harbour and fishing fleet, and the sauna steam room and Jaccuzzi all to ourselves. Staff friendly and helpful and great breakfast. Restaurant looked a bit quiet so gave it a miss in favour of 22 Main street which was also reviewed on this site. Had a very nice meal, good atmosphere, nice place but avoided the seafood, as most of it seemed to be brought in already prepared - mussels could only be had as on the menu "that's the way they come in" and the most popular fish was an imported one, not a local catch. A bit surprising for a town based round a large fishing fleet. Having said that, our meat-based meal was lovely and I would definitely go back.
